I’ll make some changes in this blog. Since couple of months, most of the readers complains that they can’t keep pace with daily updates because there are many interesting things to read but very little time. What we are going to do from now on : we are going to keep the Forum and Workshop basicly. And I’ll interfere as less as I can, because this blog is a place of discussion between readers. It’s the reader who understands my books and discuss. I’ll read your posts, your comments and try to interfere, to explain if I see the necessity. So, we are going to update the blog once a week. And from time to time, I’ll express my opinion on current affairs in my blog.
Thank you,
Paulo

I have previously left a post when you made the suggestion to change but I feel again inclined to comment.
I am dissapointed and sad that the fables/parables are now missing from your blog. Each day when I open it there is now very little of your wisdom to be uplifted and lost in for those few minutes a day.
I am sadly considering unsubscribing as I feel there is not much use receiving an email which has nothing to read :(

hi paulo, so if i got the next change on your blog, that should mean that we’ll have more time for topics and questions, to go further away, deeper,so this sounds good, true we are busy sometimes.what about facebook or twiter, you talked about those ways many times… i’ve never gone on those highways and crossroads yet,i didn’t find the time haha!!but i go on web newspapers also, where many peoples are talking, writing about all so, of you also, and i can say,i learnt that from you,the enthusiasm doesn’t mean to be candide, there are “le bon moment”the right time, and i can say “la bonne vitesse”the right speed.i believe also in “grain de sable” or “l’effet papillon”,i mean,i remember this story about this old black american woman in a bus, many years ago,she is a “legende”,a tale now,she did the right thing at the good time.so is it the quantity,or the quality of the seed? i’m sure that your blog is a great sept already.

Dear Paulo,
My first reaction was just – ok, something has happened….
I did not focus on the reasons just on the fact.
And then I just let it go and accepted it for your decision was a sign..a cycle closing … for I thought of the first posts I read here “the seven deadly sins”and just one topic – one sin at the time…no quotes – no youtube – no stories – no artwork…and the beautiful posts from avc, aditya, and Debbie from U.S.A. – I cannot remember the other names but there were many more…
Whatever you decide is just fine with me. Your blog is a place for contemplation for me. I take a quote, a question, or a story and research it.
The seven deadly sins led me to the early church fathers and I read most of them online.
Tonight I went back to the early posts on your blog and I found your prayer, which I would like to dedicate to all the WOLs….
“Lord, protect our doubts, because Doubt is a way of praying. It is Doubt that makes us grow because it forces us to look fearlessly at the many answers that exist to one question. And in order for this to be possible…
Lord, protect our decisions, because making Decisions is a way of praying. Give us the courage, after our doubts, to be able to choose between one road and another. May our YES always be a YES and our NO always be a NO. Once we have chosen our road, may we never look back nor allow our soul to be eaten away by remorse. And in order for this to be possible…
Lord, protect our actions, because Action is a way of praying. May our daily bread be the result of the very best that we carry within us. May we, through work and Action, share a little of the love we receive. And in order for this to be possible…
Lord, protect our dreams, because to Dream is a way of praying. Make sure that, regardless of our age or our circumstances, we are capable of keeping alight in our heart the sacred flame of hope and perseverance. And in order for this to be possible
Lord, give us enthusiasm, because Enthusiasm is a way of praying. It is what binds us to the Heavens and to Earth, to grown-ups and to children, it is what tells us that our desires are important and deserve our best efforts. It is Enthusiasm that reaffirms to us that everything is possible, as long as we are totally committed to what we are doing. And in order for this to be possible…
Lord, protect us, because Life is the only way we have of making manifest Your miracle. May the earth continue to transform seeds into wheat, may we continue to transmute wheat into bread. And this is only possible if we have Love; therefore, do not leave us in solitude. Always give us Your company, and the company of men and women who have doubts, who act and dream and feel enthusiasm, and who live each day as if it were totally dedicated to Your glory. Amen “ (Paulo Coelho)
Your blog will always be a treasure for me.
With loving kindness,
Satora

I’ve thought about what you said, and I must admit, I naturally didn’t like the change, as I would with anything I’m rather comfortable with. But alas, most things that change are often for the better, so I’d like to apologise for my initial negativity. I realise that with the amount of visitors, it really must be very difficult to keep this running smoothly. I understand the concept of doing less properly, than having more insufficiently. I suppose most people are afraid as well to lose the community we currently have, and the truth is, if we continue as usual to comment when need be, there shouldn’t be a loss in our communtity. So, I’ll support Paulo and his team :) I’m sure, everything will work out :)

Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!
(First, let me say that I have not been complaining, so please, no one blame this on me.) BUT, now that you mention it, I have been feeling this way too: totally overwhelmed lately. I see so much going on on the blog, and I want to be a part of it, but it is simply too much for me to digest. As a result, some days, I have not been logging on at all.
Now, having said that, let me say that the things I will miss the most if they disappear completely: the free association and the image. Weekly is just fine though. Great, in fact! This, for me, will give me the time to read all the comments made by everyone, not just post hurried responses and rush through.
Again, thank you, Paulo, and everyone on the blog team, for making these changes. If it is overwhelming to me as a reader, I can only imagine how overwhelming it must be for all of you in terms of creating and managing this blog. Sometimes less IS more. Simplicity is blessed.
Much Love,

Hi Yagna,
u’r signoff messgae has not changed over the years, i remember it from a quite some time.
Paulo and his team will take the best decision, paulo is a wol as i am sure most of his teammates are.
this partuclar post from me to you and all freinds here is for pointing out something.
change, need for acceptance, increaisng rate of change etc etce has been drilled into our pschy for quite soem time now. change is not such a sacrosanct thing actually, and as we know it is not always noble.
the earth does not change its course, the stars don’t their course, human emotions don’t change. chnage is maybe good, but only when it is well thought of, trying to change things just because we get bored with the present too fast is foolish, as we are realising with climate chnage and the stuff.
things don’t have to chnage, they do, but not necessarily. sometimes i wonder, in hhindusim, buddism they talk of nirvana, that state in which u connect to the unchanging core of yourself, nirvana would become boring for us humans no ?
just to remind us that chnage is OK but not necessary always. things which are working finr are at times chnaged in teh guise of doing things in new way, why don’t we start walking in a new way ( one actually does, when one tries to chnage oneself from within ), at times there is a optimum way of doing things, and low and behold that optimum way may aleready be in place.
i know i am not right with my these views about change, but i am not entirely wrong. or am i?

Although this was not the case with this community, I suggest you to read this interesting article on The Guardian (below). We were very much alive and well, but the blog has stopped in 320.000 single visitors a month. It is not bad, but the effort it demands is gigantic. I am - together with my team - studying other possibilities.
Charles Arthur guardian.co.uk,
Wednesday 24 June 2009 19.00 BST Article historyBlogging is dying. Actually, no, let me qualify that. The long tail of blogging is dying. I say this with confidence. That confidence is based on two things: my anecdotal, but wide-ranging, analysis of what and how people remark on content from this section, and the surveys carried out by Technorati – which provides the Guardian with the feedback data that appears on our web pages. The interesting question is, what has replaced that blogging?
First, to my anecdotal analysis. Since the relaunch of this section in September 2005, we’ve included blog pingbacks among the “letters” section, recognising that people might not want to write a letter, or even send us an email (to tech@guardian.co.uk) when they have an opinion about something we’ve written. Instead, they might write a post on their own blog. Since January 2006 I’ve automated the process of searching for those blogposts. (Put simply: collect the links from the section – which I do anyway, stored on a MySQL database on my laptop – then input them into blog search engines via a preconfigured script.)
I’d then follow these posts. There were always a certain number of splogs – spam blogs – which simply pick up keywords and dress them with Google AdSense adverts. Boring, but easily ignored. Then there would be the blogs that copied entire articles – annoying (it denies us page views and advertising revenue), though usually they’re easily persuaded not to persist. Then there would be those who had read the piece and had comments and insight, which we could extract for inclusion in the Letters and blogs section. Of course, the number of physical letters we received about what appeared here was absolutely tiny: months would go by without any arriving. Email remained the principal source, though blogs quickly began to make up the majority of content.
But recently – over the past six months – I’ve noticed a new trend: fewer blogs with links, and fewer with any contextual comment. (I’m defining a blog here as an individual site, whether on Blogger or Wordpress or an individual domain, with regular entries.) Some weeks, apart from the splogs, there would be hardly anything. I didn’t think we’d suddenly become dull. Nor was it for want of searching: mining for blog comments, I use Icerocket.com. Technorati.com and Google’s Blogsearch.
Where is everybody? Anecdotally and experimentally, they’ve all gone to Facebook, and especially Twitter. At least with Twitter, one can search for comments via backtweets.com – though it’s still quite rare for people to make a comment on a piece in a tweet; more usually it’s a “retweet”, echoing the headline. The New York Times also noticed this trend, with a piece on 9 June about “Blogs Falling In An Empty Forest”, which pointed to Technorati’s 2008 survey of the state of the blogosphere, which found that only 7.4m out of the 133m blogs it tracks had been updated in the past 120 days. As the New York Times put it, “that translates to 95% of blogs being essentially abandoned”.
I see it: NetNewsWire, my RSS feed reader, has nearly 500 feeds. When one of them hasn’t been updated for 60 days, it turns brown, like a plant dying for lack of water. More and more of the feeds I follow are turning brown. Why? Because blogging isn’t easy. More precisely, other things are easier – and it’s to easier things that people are turning. Facebook’s success is built on the ease of doing everything in one place. (Search tools can’t index it to see who’s talking about what, which may be a benefit or a failing.) Twitter offers instant content and reaction. Writing a blog post is a lot harder than posting a status update, putting a funny link on someone’s Wall, or tweeting. People are still reading blogs, and other content. But for the creation of amateur content, their heyday for the wider population has, I think, already passed. The short head of blogging thrives. Its long tail, though, has lapsed into desuetude.

Hello dear Paulo,
Well, this is an interesting article. People are writing less I guess. Also it has a bit to do with when something becomes popular, it becomes a trend and everyone follows and wants to do it, then after a while, it dies down.
This also makes me think that people might be enjoying living more, that instead of sitting behind the computer and typing, they’d rather be talking to a friend about it instead. Although, I don’t believe this is true of Writers, as writers need to Write and put it down on paper.
As for myself, when I write my poetry, more often than not, I prefer to write it in my notebook rather than directly into the computer. I guess that’s a ritual of writing for me, that I like to write it onto paper first. Unless the thoughts are just flowing like a fast running stream, then I have to use the computer. I also find myself out of sorts when I sit in front of the computer for too long, the electricity has a strong affect on me and my mind, therefore I cannot spend long hours otherwise I just become kind of zombied out. There is just so much information flying through the internet.
A few times it has happened that my computer has been on all night because I forgot to turn it off. On those days, when I wake up, there’s information in my head that corresponds to what I find online! Strange!
Well, thank you for posting this, so Facebook! watch everybody running towards facebook ;)

Dear mister Coelho,
I may be a hundred years old but somehow ‘less is more’ is still a truth.
Last night i sat on the terrace of the thai take-away around the corner listening to a girl talking about what she wants to see, the pyramids and mount rushmore.’Mount Rushmore….’ i thought ‘is it about the presidents faces in the rock or about the house on the hill: the clear lines and the pureness of Frank Loyd Wright?’ i’ll vote for the house any day!
If we make a mess of it you’re bound to change it again anyway. i think the impulse more meaningful and lasting interaction between your readers should be coming from you.
In Rotterdam we have some experience with budies: young people hook up with somebody close to whom they ideally want to be,- a young kick boxer gets hooked up to a boxing champion, an imquisitive economist student couples with a financing manager, a starting rapper gets to be coached by an experienced musician: the buddy concept works except for the unequality of the partners.
Maybe if you could designate some of your blogs participants to each other on an equal base, you could get us to communicate what we really think and feel, beyond the good wishes/prayers, the thanks and the political correctness. That is up to you of course. It might be a risk, because it would get us really involved and we’re passionate, aren’t we. It might also be the answer to fast food cunsumption of letters.
Less is more indeed, but not just by making it less, also by making it more less.

Hi Paulo,
Yes, I had read an article already talking about how blog’s are out and Twitter is in. I’m not sure if you are suggesting to close down your blog or not? Another question is if you really can categorize what you have here as a blog, as it has had such a variety in content, and being updated several times a day, with so many participants, isn’t it rather a social community online? If you are ready to cut back and move on to Twitter, I will understand and respect your decision. Do you find Twitter could replace what we have here? Another idea is to call this something else than a blog, perhaps what you have called it yourself; ‘Paulo Coelho’s online community’? I enjoy every second of being here with you and everybody else, and it would be a huge loss to see the end of it, who knows if I’d start to Twit or not, isn’t that just for rich and famous people who want to sell a product?
sincerely,
Heart

Well a blog is based on writing and quality reading, not on some ‘trend’, I guess, and the survival of a media of communication depends on the interest and motivation to keep it alive…In this case I would also participate in a different form of community if you would offer it to your readers. It is the motivation to communicate, and this blog is just one of the possibilities you offer. People would gather around you if you would change the form of communication, I’m sure..this thoughts would meet…this blog is just a vehicle

after initial mushrooming of blogs, it was inevitable, also inevitable was the fcat that a small percentage will keep on moving to newer avenues like tweeter.
But blogs which survive on the strength of their content and parentage will survive.
there will be some blogs which will be oldest surviving blogs, even 20-25 years from now.
I am sure paulo, u and your team will rely not just on raw data but you ‘wisdom’ too, looking for an intutive outcome.
320000 visitors a month for this site does not mean just 320000 visitors, it means 320000 potential wols, people who are at least curious about walking the path, once agin. if one looks at it, if the site helps even 1/10th of this number, eb a better human being, Paulo u would have achived more than what zesus could in his lifetime..

I love your blog for the variety of the material,
as written by several - this is not a usual blog,
it has become more of a community.
Twitter is a trend and like all trends it wont last
long like it looks now. It is known that a lot of twitterers
are not coming back after their first month. They write xx
million users, but that can not be the real number of
active users. Many twitterers use it as a tool to tell
when they have updated their blog or webpage.
It should be a complement, not a replacement.
Facebook is nice, but you don’t write long blogposts there.
It could also be possible that people ArE turning away
from the computers to spend more time offline, which
then actually is quite positive, isn’t it?
I still love to write by hand and send my snailmails.
Olfashioned analog communication. I also like the thought
that although you get 400 emails per day, you don’t get 400 snailmails per day.

Thank you deeply for the Anaxagore’s quote, dear Marie, yes nothing gets lost..everything is transformed
” for no thing comes to be or passes away, but is mixed together and dissociated from the things that are. And thus they would be correct to call coming-to-be mixing-together and passing-away dissociating. ” Anaxagoras
What seems to us, through perception, to be generation of new or destruction of old entities is not that at all. Rather, objects that appear to us to be born, to grow, and to die, are merely arrangements of more metaphysically basic ingredients. The mechanism for the apparent coming-to-be is mixture. Through that mechanism, the real things, the ingredients, can retain their character throughout. When an arrangement breaks apart (or “dies”) the ingredients dissociate from one another (through separation) and can re-mix to form a different arrangement.

Paulo, After watching this video I was sad to hear that you would like to simplify and only update once a week your blog. Every category that you have ever place was great to read. A blog is a personal website what you decide to do will be the way to go. Will you consider keeping Quote of the day, or Image of the day. Thank you for your blog.

Dearest Paulo,
I didn’t get that bit about ‘interfering’? I thought we all wanted you to be here with us- interact more. And it was lovely seeing you responding to most of our comments on The Alchemist workshop.
If I said something that was amiss anywhere on the blog,I must apologise to you.
Dear God, this is like some bad dream for me. Just last month, my Master said something in His discourse that was like plunging into an abyss. It came as a blow - hurt me like nothing before.
And even strangely it was while rereading The Alchemist this afternoon, while coming upon Melchizedek and his asking for Santiago’s sheep, that I stopped reading and everything became clear- why my Master said what He did on June 21st.
About enough sheep not being good enough and how He could not help the boy if he had ‘enough’and about the omens God places in our path. All the people Santiago meets and why- he lets us know later on and what they taught him…I thought about what my dream had been and what I told my Master when I met Him and recalled all the people who had helped me.
Still confused,
Sheela

Hi Paulo,
Are we still going to receive our daily ‘warrior quotes’? I hope so - I depend on them so much for courage. Thank you for all you do.

Paulo,
PLEASE leave the quote of the day and your own stories and parables. That is why I go to the blog. I think sometimes we Virgos can be too radical in our quest for perfection.

Mary, I will consider all the comments posted here, and by the end of the month eventually open posts that could auto-feed (like “You in my blog”, for example).

oh, but I thought you had a lot of the material here more or less on autofeed - that you choosed a couple of pictures in advance once or twice a week and then they got updated automatically?
The only timeconsuming thing would be to keep track of all the comments, but is it necessary to have a comment function on every part of the blog?
For comments it would be handy if they got auto-numbered - then it’s easy to make a note and go back to very good ones. :-)
Take care, when something constantly takes more energy than it gives, it’s a sign you need a break. After a whole day in front of the screen at my (new) work I nowadays ofthen have internetfree evenings. Even emails will have to wait, my friends and family have my phone number.

Dear Mr. Coelho,
Maybe the best would be to update
the Question of the Reader DAILY,
the Forum (in the central part of the blog)
and
the the Quotation from the Warrior of Light
(in the left cloumn of the blog, like now) WEEKLY
the Workshop (in the central part of the blog)
(with leaving space for comments after the “deadline”) MONTHLY
your Stories and Parables (and those of the Readers) RANDOMLY
(following the inspiration)
(in the left column of the blog, like the quotation ,now)
András.

Dearest Paulo,
Firstly, I’d like to say that I’m pretty suprised by the notion of updating this blog weekly with only a workshop and forum. Personally I’d like to start by disagreeing with your decision- If I may. Allow me give you some of my perspective: I’ve been writing on this blog and reading it daily for almost two years now, and like many of the people here, your daily inspiration has become a way of life for us. As much as you say, you’d like to interfere less, the truth is, most of us regulars here develop a sense of upliftment from each other, and we often look forward to reading each others comments. For example: the very first people i met here, who I’ll never forget have inspired are, Aditya, Leaf, the Observer, and Carmen. The manner in which they write is outstanding, and they challenged me to think of more and more different perspectives. Now it’s grown and there are beautiful personalities like Paul from Austria, Heart, Thelma, Annie, Savita, Alexandra, and so on, who i’ve grown to know and admire. The interaction between people here itself has grown immensely. I remember when you didn’t even have a forum, and now, within two days you have over a hundred comments! I absolutely love that, and I can’t tell you how proud I am to be apart of it. I agree with keeping that weekly, and I agree with keeping the workshop weekly as well, but the stories, quotes, questions and images are prided on a daily basis of not only encouragement, but also an opportunity to experience and an express ourselves though our words. It helps us think of issues and concepts we don’t normally come across and helps us discover ourselves through our opinions. Sometimes, I myself, is astounded by the truths I didn’t even know inside of existed- simply because someone posed the question or you wrote a story. I realise that it is alot of hard work for both you and your web team, and you all are doing a fantastic job, but if it is getting too much, and you’d prefer to update less, rather make it 3times a week instead of removing it. You know, even reading other’s stories just fascinates me so.. The way the blog is set now, is so interactive, so lovely and the thought of not having that constant positive reminder around, just scares me to tell you the truth. I suppose, it’s because this is one of the few places, each of us can be ourselves. I do however understand how difficult it must be to maintain so I suggest to keep the set up but update less if need be. I personally don’t think you should do cut down solely to cater for the masses- forgive me if i sound negative, but most of do have a very busy life style, I personally miss a few days, but I always manage to check in between my daily life- and the mobile addition makes it so easy access at any time or place. I think it’s important that you realise that you’ve already created a community here, and keeping this foundation is of vital importance. This blog is very much apart of us as well, and we always welcome new people- so don’t get me wrong. I just see this blog living up to such a remarkable potential, and don’t want to see it downsized, because it really does mean the world to me and as it stands, it is growing phenomenally :)
Sorry if I sound a bit rough on the edges, but I think you should know what this place means to some people, and what the impact will be if you decide to removed most of items and it is updated weekly. Thank you though, even if you decide to change it - which I hope not, I’ll always love this place :) I hope that you take my suggestions into consideration as you normally do. I love love love our community here :)
Thank you for being
Yajna

I too really enjoyed the stories from readers and that is what help to inspire me to try and write something to contribute to the blog. It was a wonderful outlet. I loved the question of the day too. I would ask that you consider leaving all the new things you added but just update them once a week so that readers could have time to read and comment on all the new aspects you recently added. This way you are giving everyone time to enjoy all parts of the blog and keeping all the great content and opportunities for readers to interact with each other and Paulo. I also really like the month long workshops about your books. That is a perfect amount of time to think about what I would like to say and comment on what others say about my comments. Please don’t change this.
