About the Blog

by Paulo Coelho on July 2, 2009

I’ll make some changes in this blog. Since couple of months, most of the readers complains that they can’t keep pace with daily updates because there are many interesting things to read but very little time. What we are going to do from now on : we are going to keep the Forum and Workshop basicly. And I’ll interfere as less as I can, because this blog is a place of discussion between readers. It’s the reader who understands my books and discuss. I’ll read your posts, your comments and try to interfere, to explain if I see the necessity. So, we are going to update the blog once a week. And from time to time, I’ll express my opinion on current affairs in my blog.

Thank you,
Paulo

Dearest Paulo,

I just read some of the comments. It seems most people feel the same way I do. Please sir, if you can make a plan and let this continue to work as it does, i think it would mean alot to many people. In fact, I’d like to offer my services, do tell me, what i can do, and i’ll help if need be :) Just, i hope you kindly reconsider because I love it here on a daily basis – the stories and quotes etc.. I do.. And everyone too :)
Anyway.. If you don’t, I just want to say thank you :) this place has really made a difference to my life. Mwah

Thank you for being

Dearest Paulo,

Firstly, I’d like to say that I’m pretty suprised by the notion of updating this blog weekly with only a workshop and forum. Personally I’d like to start by disagreeing with your decision- If I may. Allow me give you some of my perspective: I’ve been writing on this blog and reading it daily for almost two years now, and like many of the people here, your daily inspiration has become a way of life for us. As much as you say, you’d like to interfere less, the truth is, most of us regulars here develop a sense of upliftment from each other, and we often look forward to reading each others comments. For example: the very first people i met here, who I’ll never forget have inspired are, Aditya, Leaf, the Observer, and Carmen. The manner in which they write is outstanding, and they challenged me to think of more and more different perspectives. Now it’s grown and there are beautiful personalities like Paul from Austria, Heart, Thelma, Annie, Savita, Alexandra, and so on, who i’ve grown to know and admire. The interaction between people here itself has grown immensely. I remember when you didn’t even have a forum, and now, within two days you have over a hundred comments! I absolutely love that, and I can’t tell you how proud I am to be apart of it. I agree with keeping that weekly, and I agree with keeping the workshop weekly as well, but the stories, quotes, questions and images are prided on a daily basis of not only encouragement, but also an opportunity to experience and an express ourselves though our words. It helps us think of issues and concepts we don’t normally come across and helps us discover ourselves through our opinions. Sometimes, I myself, is astounded by the truths I didn’t even know inside of existed- simply because someone posed the question or you wrote a story. I realise that it is alot of hard work for both you and your web team, and you all are doing a fantastic job, but if it is getting too much, and you’d prefer to update less, rather make it 3times a week instead of removing it. You know, even reading other’s stories just fascinates me so.. The way the blog is set now, is so interactive, so lovely and the thought of not having that constant positive reminder around, just scares me to tell you the truth. I suppose, it’s because this is one of the few places, each of us can be ourselves. I do however understand how difficult it must be to maintain so I suggest to keep the set up but update less if need be. I personally don’t think you should do cut down solely to cater for the masses- forgive me if i sound negative, but most of do have a very busy life style, I personally miss a few days, but I always manage to check in between my daily life- and the mobile addition makes it so easy access at any time or place. I think it’s important that you realise that you’ve already created a community here, and keeping this foundation is of vital importance. This blog is very much apart of us as well, and we always welcome new people- so don’t get me wrong. I just see this blog living up to such a remarkable potential, and don’t want to see it downsized, because it really does mean the world to me and as it stands, it is growing phenomenally :)
Sorry if I sound a bit rough on the edges, but I think you should know what this place means to some people, and what the impact will be if you decide to removed most of items and it is updated weekly. Thank you though, even if you decide to change it – which I hope not, I’ll always love this place :) I hope that you take my suggestions into consideration as you normally do. I love love love our community here :)

Thank you for being
Yajna

I too really enjoyed the stories from readers and that is what help to inspire me to try and write something to contribute to the blog. It was a wonderful outlet. I loved the question of the day too. I would ask that you consider leaving all the new things you added but just update them once a week so that readers could have time to read and comment on all the new aspects you recently added. This way you are giving everyone time to enjoy all parts of the blog and keeping all the great content and opportunities for readers to interact with each other and Paulo. I also really like the month long workshops about your books. That is a perfect amount of time to think about what I would like to say and comment on what others say about my comments. Please don’t change this.

Mr. Coelho, this blog is your creation, responds to your desires, to your sense, and as the initiator, the creator, you are entitled to changes, as long as they respond to your initial intentions. As for me, when I come on your blog, it responds to my desires, my needs, and I act upon. The only thing I hope is that those changes are in accordance with your initial purposes and your personal legend. Cordialement, Johanne

I will miss some topics, but I’m agree with the unmknow coments, because, that I realy don’t have time to read all the topics in this blogs. I always have to get back to the other topics, to follow the coments and undestand again the topics. As a young woman, I’m doing some many things every day, I’m think some people are going to enjoy the new structure of this blog. I appreciate the compromise of this blog.

Dear Mr. Coelho,

This is a jolt for me :( I enjoyed reading your blog so much and used to get a lot of inspiration from your stories. And also the “Todays question by the Readers” section.. sometime it echoed my inner queries and I loved the way you resolved them.

What made you take this sudden decision? I would strongly urge you to think it over…please..
There have been times when I posted about my dilemmas, sufferings.. and all and your readers wonderfully helped me to resolve them. I remember that once I commented on a post written quite sometimes ago and surprisingly I found someone has posted a reply against that too and it was a guidance to the query I had posted. I’m no fool not to understand that it was you yourself :)
How Can we forget the way you guided us along our mission? Please don’t leave this blog and you readers this way.. please…

I will miss your daily updates. Coming home tired from emotionally exhausting work, one of the first things I do is to read your offering for the day. It has provided spiritual food for the soul. I will miss this daily nourishment of comfort and hope, but perhaps it is a sign to become more involved in the forums and not be just a passive observer. Since discovering the Alchemist in 2007, which served to reawaken my own dream of becoming a writer, I have read many more of your books and am eternally greatful for the wisdom contained in each. It is impossible to include in a few words here how much your writing has affected me. Thank you and I will continue to follow your writing in whatever form you choose to send it out into the world.

Dear Paulo

I am a little confused, only yesterday I read all your wonderful comments in the workshop and was thinking, how great it is to have this much input from you and now you are in retreat.

I am reminded of a powerful wave that strikes the shore and then the tide retracts, taking the water far, far away.

So with this image in mind, and knowing a bit about nature, I will wait for the next wave to strike.

(I never listen to people complaining too much, because sometimes the silent song that sings in peoples hearts is louder).

Thank you again for the last wonderful three years of the Blog, everyone. It has been amazing.

(Thelma, I am really looking forward to meeting you in person).

Lots of love
Pandora

It was suprising and it is still, how much you give people here.
You provide so much love and attention that less would be still more than any of us could expect.
So,therefor,I truely love you and I am looking forward to the changes that will happen.

Problem with this blog, in my opinion, is not about the frequency an number of post, but this blog isn’t providing easy survey. For me, it’s not easy to follow what posts I read and what I haven’t. If I look at main page, I see 3 or 4 post, but I never know if I missed some interesting topic. Sure, I could go to archive with just one click, but the archive also doesn’t give easy look on the content. For example if you click on “July 2009″ (14 entries at this point) you just see same 3 or for post as on the main page. So if you want to see older post you have to click very small link (I found him after minutes of searching). But what you see when you click “Older entries”, just next 3 posts on one page, so you have to keep clicking to see older posts…

For me, the concept of this blog is problematic, It just needs to reorganize the structure, so it will be easy to browse through the post….

I also have the same problem. We still did not solve this problem.

siska July 3, 2009 at 8:39 am

Paulo, I think people that do not have time to read daily updates can just skip the updates and visit the website whenever they have times.

The reason I enjoy this blog is because of the very many posts from you. The first time I read your book, it was Zahir. I didn’t understand the message, but my heart did. It rejoiced all the way through the reading. When I read the Alchemist afterwards, I understood that my heart’s joy when reading your book was the communication beyond language described in the Alchemist.

If you reduce your posts in this blog, it will only reduce my happiness….

caro Paulo

Cari saluti, Salvatore

most of the readers?

I find it a pity, you always had the calender
to the right to go back and read earlier updates,
but for participation in a l l of the discussions
or reading a l l the comments the time is insufficient,
I always made choices (without any problems).

A positive outcome would perhaps be that more people will read each others comments in the forum as there are fewer updates to keep track of, but I will miss them – the pictures and the short stories from you and from fellow readers.

Especially the latter was very nice and inspiring to take part in!

If there is any reader who will continue with this on his or her own blog let me know! In 2005-2006 I had a similar “writing-circle” with a group of Swedish bloggers – it is a great way of starting writing.

Entende?
Beijos,
Mari.

I will really miss the quote of the day and the your story in my blog.

Maybe you could do something in between? Instead of going from daily updates to weekly updates maybe it could be 2-3 times a week?
Once a week is too little :( Or maybe we could vote or do a survey? In that way the readers could decide what they would like to see.

I was looking forward the updates each day :( I didn’t always have
time to look at each comment, but I religiously read the blog on a daily bases, it became part of my daily habit.

Of course if you don’t have time every day to do this, we would understand. But -me as a reader- I really enjoyed it. We appreciate your hard work and effort!

HI Paulo 1

u have made a decision and we must respect that, alreday whatever u have been doing, the amount of time u have been giving here is something we all should be grateful for.

But as said by few others, i too don’t like changes, specially sudden once, like this, some time may have been given. anyway.

but looking at the logic – people feel there is too much to follow on this site so reduce teh contect, seems not corrcet, no one forces anyone to go thru everything, one can choose. but yes for the moderators the work was spiralling out of control.

a suggestion – as always – can we retain that bar on the right side which can list down say last 15-20 comments made by readers / you.

Hi – it is with great sadness that I read that you are only going to update the blog once a week. I so enjoyed reading your daily quotes and “stories”. It only ever took 2 minutes to read your blog – what takes all the time is reading everybody elses comments, so it depended on how busy my day was as to whether or not I read everybody elses thoughts but religiously I always read the main page. So very sad news that it will only be updated once a week, I’m really going to miss it.

I must say this message is a bit unclear, in the sense I don’t understand what someone has complained about? Too much information? Too intense to follow all the different topics? Complained about you ‘interfering’? To me, any word you utter, Mr Paulo, to anybody here, is the greatest BLESSING we can have. I certainly, as Thelma, have been thinking, how can you keep up with all this? And, if you need help by your team to limit yourself, not to burn yourself out. Please, yes, slow down. To me, any way you want to configure this blog, is fine. I’m so impressed with everything going on here, and a bit of variety is always fun. Just, don’t take eventual complaint personal, because we are so many individuals, with our own individual opinions, and you simply cannot please everybody at all the time. Most important, take care of yourself, set your own personal limits, then it is up to us to limit our time here. Annie humorously said she is a Coeloholic, and at times I limit my own time here too. However, this cannot be blamed on an extremely attractive writer, his books or his blog postings. As God has everything ‘out’ for us to enjoy in due time, so can you.

That´s great. I was thinking exactly that. The blog had a lot of … (I don´t know how to say in English) but it was anyway very difficult to follow all the comments and entries because there were a lot of … how do you say? … A lot of things and questions. I am going to miss you ..
Regarding the Blog, dear Paulo, I think we can VOTE!! ;-]
I have spent the most of my time since last year here in the Blog and it was a happiness and a ‘school’ for me! I have learnt so much.. I can also say that I was much happier in my ‘real life’ because the ‘me’, my soul had found consolation and love here, so I kept the balance.. It was like having a ‘secret life’ or a Lover, without the QUILT!!! Because as you have said once, official dinners and social life are SO BORING. It is as living the ‘Winner stands alone’ world in ‘micrograph… The shallow, material world..
So I think those wol friends complaining about too many topics may be selective..
One thing that I have found difficult to follow was the ‘book’s discussion’ because of the many different links.. Too complicated.
Thank you.

I am asking Suphi if it is possible. I believe it is, as it is generated automatically. If it is, you will see this on Monday.

Annie, I like very much what you wrote it is necessary to us to look positively at the changes. So, the customs are made to be pushed aside and it obliges us to move also.

As said it Anaxagore: ” nothing gets lost, nothing builds up itself, everything is transformed “.

The best rest to come…
