Very cavalier of Borges. I would consider the freedom of a creature more important any day, than a poem, no matter how inspiring it is. For, what poet (except William Blake :-) can write something as wondrous as the life of a wild tiger?
Inequality inspires us. The have-nots inspire us. There is nothing, nothing great in humanity if we need inequality to propel us. I do not argue for mediocrity, that crushes the mighty. What I wish to see is something that will raise us all to the peak of Olympus. Can you write of that?
I believe many works of art, can raise you to the peak of Olympus! they can trigger you live life with much more quality, see things from different perspective, and although these artists are not God, or the 12 Olympian Gods, or any God for that matter, to me they are the ones who look up high , which is the meaning of being ‘human’(ανθρωπος = ανω + θρώσκω = κοιτάω ψηλά = look up high)..
The Alchemist is definitely one of that, and to this list, I ‘d also include many of the poems of Borges..
