Fantastic video, Marie-Christine. Thank you for posting it. In watching it, I had this feeling: “Yes, I’m not crazy! I am doing something right!” I am home-schooling my daughter and, I might add, without a standardized curriculum. It would have been possible to purchase a curriculum and follow it, but all of the curriculums I found, unfortunately, were based on the traditional models of education which are described in this video: education = filling the child’s head with a set body of knowledge. The approach which I have adopted is, on the contrary, much more “question based” than “answer based.” Of course there are the basics to be learned and in those, the answers are set: 2 + 2 always = 4, and C – A – T always spells “cat,” etc. But, beyond that, the world is a virtual playground full of questions with no set solutions or answers. Possibilities are everywhere.
One of thing that I have noticed with our traditional models of education is that the subjects are generally segregated and taught with the seeming assumption that knowledge in one subject area has no bearing on the other areas. For example, history is taught as though it were just something to be memorized – lists of names of leaders and dates of wars – not as something to be questioned or utilized to shed light in other arenas. It is taught as though there were just one right view, one correct set of answers. Just memorize and regurgitate the information – this is what students are instructed to do. Never question, just repeat.
Geography is taught in the same way – just memorize the names of places, learn to trace the borders, but do not question why the world is divided up as it is. Certainly do not question if these divisions are just and equitable. Just accept that what is is what is. Nor are children taught, for example, to utilize what they’ve learned of history to analyze problems and find solutions in political or cultural geography. These are separate subjects. The one has no bearing on the other – so the students are taught. Just memorize and regurgitate the information supplied, but do not think about it, do not question it, and whatever you do, do not enter into it with a creative, problem-solving approach.
These are just two subjects, but many are the subjects which are treated in this manner. Students, rather than being asked to access and utilize their creativity, are asked simply to memorize. The only questions that are ever posed in the classroom are questions to which the teacher believes that he/she already knows the one correct answer. This is not life! This is “knowledge” but it is knowledge that is dead and dry. It can only be brought to life when students are invited to exercise their creativity upon it.
It is my view that only thorough a more integrated system of learning (where subjects are NOT strictly segregated), a more hands-on approach (inviting creative investigation), and an approach wherein the question takes precedent over the “correct” or “standardized” answer (honoring the student’s potential to formulate viable answers that we may not have thought of ourselves) – only in this way can we truly prepare students to take on the challenges of the real world in an effective and successful manner.
Thanks again, Marie-Christine, for posting this wonderful video. Someday we are going to look back upon the way we have been formally educating our children for the past hundred years or so, and this era is going to look like the Dark Ages of education. We’ll look back and view the schoolhouses of today the way that we now look back and view the dungeons and torture chambers of by-gone eras – with a sense of disbelief at our own brutality and ignorance. We are learning ever so much more every day in terms of what works and what does not work. The theories needed to truly revolutionize education are already there – we need only apply them in the classrooms.

Congrats on another success. Olympic 2016.
this business of vying for hosting olympic and other games, the process, the stakes, and finally uphoria for some and gloom for most others, has always fascinated me. i mean why should i pitch for holding these big ticket events, sure they put an impetus on infrasturcre development and share one’s culture, one’s efficiency with rest of the world. But does that justify such fierce lobbying. anyway i really don’t know much about what drives these.
it would be interesting to read what presentation u made ( if at all one was required to be made ), it will be more interesting to read about teh whole process in a novel from from you, you will be able to catch the spirit of this whole thing and make it easily understandable for us laymen !

I am so very happy about this news. Now my soul is at piece, when Paulo is around to assure his intentions will be transformed into motion picture. We can imagine how frustrating it is for writers to see a text desecrated by script writers, producers, directors, distributors and so much more. Paulo has been very secretive about this…hmmmm… guess he doesn’t like to talk about projects when they are in process… we have to wait for the final production.

“Guerir is a partner for the second year of the “Ribbon of Hope”, a demonstration that goes around in 14 towns from the 10th of October to 22nd of October.
“The Ribbon of Hope” is put in place by local and national asociation that support the cancer patients associations involved in the organised screening or linked with the theme “Health and environment” For thirteen days, the Ribbon of Hope Delegation will travel 2,700 kms by car. It starts in Paris on the 10th and goes to Reims, Henin Beaumont, Le Havre, Rennes et Cesson, Sevigne, St Heblain, La Rochelle, Bordeaux, Castelnaudary, Montpellier, Aix-en-Provence, Guilherand-Granges and Lyon – last stop of the Tour de France of Solidarity.

Sé que ese fuego no es nada malo. El problema es controlarlo. Lo explico así porque no sé explicarlo de otra forma. Supongamos que ese fuego es una energía salvaje que te da mucha fuerza para luchar, etc. He comprobado que cuánto más contolas las malas acciones más crece. Crece muy rápidamente, es veloz. El problema, la dificultad, es soportar eso, esa energía. Que crezca depende de uno mismo. Controlas tus malas acciones y crece, pero crece tan rápido que sientes que te falta el aire para respirar.
No estoy loca, no lo puedo explicar mejor.
Estoy muy confusa. Siento el desbarajuste y desorden de estos comentarios. Quería explicarlo bien, y sí, he sido un poco desordenada. Si alguien me puede decir algo le estaré muy agradecido. No es una bobada. Lo que digo es verdad. Creo que hay algo ahí, no sé explicarlo.

Es una gran duda existencial. Los que no sepan la respuesta que se abstengan, los que sepan la respuesta que contesten por favor. Ambas cosas son buenas, tanto controlarse como que no. Yo creo que sí te controlas eso te da fuerza para hacer muchas cosas y si esas cosas merecen la pena una vez hechas, son mucho mejores que las palabras o las que las pequeñas cosas que vas consiguiendo al expresar los buenos pensamientos. Contagias a la gente, es verdad, pero si no la contagias y te callas, si te reservas un poco, eso puede dar lugar a grandes acciones, puede ser BOM, algo grande.
Estoy hecha un lío. Inclinandome a pensar así, ¿cómo se controla uno y encuentra el equilibrio?
Va a parecer que estoy loca pero me da igual. He aprendido a controlarme un poco y necesito resolver la duda.

¿Por qué cuándo siento que todo está bien, y me siento muy emocionada, muy ilusionada (vamos, que estoy pletórica) siento que no soy capaz de estarme callada? ¿Por qué en esos momentos pierdo el control y expreso mis mejores pensamientos?
Es complicado explicarlo. Cuándo me controlo y me quedo calladita me siento después muy fuerte, con mucha energia, eso me da poder, un poder inexplicable que me da bienestar, pero claro, en esos momentos estoy tan bien que quiero hablar, compartir, y cuánto más hablo pierdo esa fuerza, esa energía que me quema, que parece fuego, fuego salvaje.
Ésto no lo entiendo. No lo puedo entender. Quiero una respuesta. Por favor, contentesten. Denme una explicación.
¿Qué hago en esos momentos? ¿Controlarme o compartir mis buenos pensamientos? Es muy contradictorio. No entiendo nada.

2016 Summer Olympics is being held in Rio de Janiero! Canadian news channels have been showing the annoucement and the celebration in Brazil. There was actually a clip with Paulo, and his wife in a crowd celebrating when the annoucement was made. When I saw it I thought “Hey that is Paulo Coelho!!”

I actually make jokes about relationships and being an old maid myself, who possibly will have at least twenty dogs or so, to fill the gaps. I’m almost 30 soon (although by the looks (what I look like) I am often mistaked to be a teenager or at least someone who need to be asked for an ID when buying wine…), and I haven’t been in a relationship in last 6 years. It has been my own choice. Now that I’d be ready to start a deeper relationship, where are all the guys? ;) I am joking, of course. My friends often let me know that “love surprises You at the moment You least expect it”. Well.. sure, it can happen that way. I’ve given it all (the subject) free hands, and in a way letting it all go because I haven’t been expecting anything. And maybe one day I’ll be as lucky as that woman of about 80 years old. Everything happens at the “right moment”.
