EM PORTUGUES: vaso com rachaduras

An Indian legend tells of a man who carried water to his village every day, in two large jars tied to the ends of a wooden pole, which he balanced on his back.
One of the jars was older than the other, and had some small cracks; every time the man covered the distance to his house, half of the water was lost.
The younger jar was always very proud of its performance, safe in the knowledge that it was up to the mission it had been made for, while the other jar was mortified with shame at only fulfilling half of its allotted task.
It was so ashamed that one day, while the man got ready to fetch water from the well, it decided to speak to him:
– I want to apologize, but because of the many years of service, you are only able to deliver half of my load, and quench half of the thirst which awaits you at your home.
The man smiled, and said:
– When we return, observe carefully the path.
And so it did. And the jar noticed that, on its side, many flowers and plants grew.
– See how nature is more lovely on your side? – commented the man. – I always knew you were cracked, and decided to make use of this fact.
‘I planted flowers and vegetables, and you have always watered them.
‘I have picked many roses to decorate my house with, I have fed my children with lettuce, cabbage and onions.
‘If you were not as you are, how could I have done that?

Excelente ejemplo.. Bendiciones..
I have learnt a lot from his the most famous Al-chamist. So after that I never missed the chance to enhance my knowledge from his publications.
Indian stories are the most thought-provoking.
Brilliant, thought provoking….. excellent example to positive thinking….. :)
This is one of my favorite stories!
I remember the first time reading and how much it helped with acceptance, tolerance and being patient. Also imagined like in Rumi’s poem ‘What do think would happen?’ (At that time, still worried a lot.)
Seeing something more today!!
Love in the present with a little faith and trust in the goodness.
Cheers for your day everyone! Love and Blessings,

Nice, thanks for sharing your thoughts!
brilliant
It’s a very wise saying. We should always find posibilities in imposibilities. We can use our impefections in creative ideas to help ourselves n our childrens to come.
If one observes wisely and with more insight there are always cracked jars all over which can help to improve one’s boundaries both physicaly and mentaly.the point is to see them as opportunities not just boring routines to pass by.
It shows no matter how ‘imperfect’ we may be, we always have something to offer. Small actions sometimes are more important.
Proud to be a cracked jar ;) <3
WOW! It’s very wise to take benefit from weaknesses. A great story!!
I hope that I may also learn on how to make an inspirational stories, it gives me a little insights about it and there is something brightens me up.
A very thought-provoking story shared by Paulo. Such stories enhance positivism and help to deal any matter with open heart. As long as there are stories to tell I’ll be listening.
Hay I remember my grandmother telling this story. I was more excited with the man’s intelligence than the real lesson she wanted to pass on. Now after 25 years I realize it. May be its necessary to start cracking to understand your own utility. Thank you Paulo for reciting it so nicely.
How very poetic. We often loose sight of our creative and long term strength when we compare and compete with others. I enjoyed this story very much.
NICE!!!! will check out your bloggs more often. I have just downloaded the Alchemist for the my 10 year old. I read it in Spanish many years ago…. I can’t wait for him to read it!
Nice bedtime teaching (here it’s almost midnight).
Greetings Paulo and hood night! :)
inspiring….
I like your stories, not because they are wise, but because they force to think.
Thank you! Dziękuję. Multumesc
aww! i was amazed and touched by this… thanks Paulo you never fail to surprise me.:)
Absolutely beautiful – this brought a smile to me. Thanks.
Great story!!! Everybody interprets a story in his or her own way given the experienes of each one’s life. I feel this story also says how we always need our elders, their blessings and their advice at every step of our lives. They might get old but the wisdom they gather is always tending to their next generation in blossoming them just like the old vessel’s cracks water new plants to feed and enrich the lives of the man.

simply awesome…too good story…
Ring the bells that still can ring.
Forget your perfect offering.
There is a crack in everything.
That’s how the light gets in.

Wow. Sir. Da story is fabulous nd so is the lesson. Thank You. Really proud of myself to be able enuff to hav access to ur wisdom :)
Glad to be reminded through this Indian legend that we should not be bothered with our shortcomings.. We have to see our worth instead. :)
ilove this blog. it remind us that everything in this world has a good purpose even if they have weaknesses..
thank you for reminding me that no matter how small and insignificant i am, i have a purpose in this world.
salamat po Ginoong Paulo.
This old asian story is one of my absolute favourites!
To find the meaning in the little things you do, often not knowing the outcome is good… And to find the preciousness and value in things often unnoticed, but so beautiful!
Amazing story!… Its true that people usually complain about their imperfection and compare their selves with others… and not looking at the whole picture… Good thing we have our loved ones to remind us or to show us how precious we are despite our imperfections…
so my wrinkles be having a damn good purpose to be here on my face i guess ;)P
see your own worth
what if the water only makes weeds grow taller? why not amend the crack and be whole again? say old and whole…….
some things can’t be amended,… but can be taked from the positive side , and take advantage of it,….
