“A little handbook of musical resistance could be useful during this time of the year in which, in addition to having put up with the rigours of winter, we have to endure a rising tide of musical festivals,”
…. said the Osservatore Romano, the pope’s office when they published the pope’s top ten music list. And the dark side of the moon – this Pink Floyd album is on it! Now i’ve always had problems understanding ecclestical thinking and it’s getting worese and worse.

Knowledge inspires change.
What inspired me today? The cover of the book “Inspirations” and two flying birds across the red sky…
“Новая Страна пойдет навстречу Семи Звездам под знаком Трех Звезд, пославших Камень миру. Сокровище готово, и враг не возьмет золотом покрытый щит! — Ждите Камень!” (Е.И.Рерих “Криптограммы Востока”)
Latvia. This country has one particularly special asset: the beautiful women. And no wonder that the symbol of Latvia is the woman Milda on the top of the Freedom (Freeman) Monument…

Should we teach our children to seek for wisdom with no knowledge?
After posting my previous comment, the Angel whispered in my ear if I can feel the smell of Fish? Funny Angel. Of course, I can! The smell of sardines…

WE want to see clearly. Freedom must walk by the torch of “love of wisdom”. Won’t they say that we fear the light? — Let’s take off our blindfolds, open our eyes and change our lives for the better! Let’s gain knowledge and improve education for children!

“Do not believe because one told you so. Do not believe what your master told you simply out of respect for him. But if, after examining and analyzing, you judge the principle healer (bienfaisant), holder of kindness and of serenity for the community of living, then believe and make it your guide.” Bouddha
Everyone has its opinions. Those opinions and point of views can be very interesting and hold truths. But I came to the evidence that I needed always go and discover by myself. I need to make my own experiences, examine myself facts and at the end conclude from my own. Our society of experts and specialists brought us to be less capable of searching ourselves the truth. Most have tendancy to rely on judgments, analyses and theories of others. In the end, I know that I will have to live from my own principles, my own truths, my own virtues. To build my principles, virtues, truths, I need to get out of my chair and go where they are (adventures). Today, I am able to respect others’ opinions but I base my decisions, my principles, my virtues and my life on the truths that I myself experimented and tested.

News for me …
The Director of my son called. Says that next activity for Gym is Swimming. My son went to him and asked him if possible to do something else. No more place. He told him that he does not want to make that activity, which for him is something in which he had no interest. The Director called me. Told me this. Said that he needs my help … Can you get a paper from a doctor that says he is allergic to chlore in order to not have a Zero in his report. I smiled and said yes, I can. He said ok, that is between you and me! That Director, I wish to say thank you for giving importance to my son’s “difficulty” … What as a parent I will do … take time and ask my son to tell me what is so difficult for him in doing that activity … There is a lead there for me to take. I feel blessed because that Director is making a difference for my son, compared to the others who went to hurt him more in handling situations with him. By the way, my son is 15 … I am proud of his ability to go to the Director and talk like he does with him and to see that both can now be in relation, for the first year it was not the case. I trusted my son and mostly my God and prayed and here is the change. For the others I do not know, but for me and my son, yes.
Love, Jojo.
About understanding – its good that you’ve found common language with each other.
About 15 years… I think thats age when step by step son’s starting road to manliness and maturity. And that means – minimal or better no intervention from side of parents.
P.S. Sorry if thats sounds too harsh, but thats only from my own, not so long learned expirience and can be wrong too.
With respect and let the good things happen!
Parents leave them kids alone too!
Parents caused me bigger harm than did ever any teachers. In fact some teachers had a very healing effect on my life. Somehow, I managed to reject the negative influences of the school system, and didn’t let them get to me.
The same. There was a harm, but time heals many wounds and give many answers.
Friends and some mantors have been very bright stars to me. :)
As a teacher, I put a lot of work in my classes and I like to keep indoctrination at a minimum. Still, the same people who’d be furious to accept a teacher’s intervention would want that same teacher to intervene when racist, mysogynist or flat out cruel remarks are being made. Everyone has an opinion about education and should have one, it’s important enough still one has to accept the aspect of socialisation if you consider the strictness and repressivity of many societies schools should prepare pupils for most of them are pretty lenient.
I look up movies, have kids bring stuff and spend hours reading to be ready for their questions I stimulate critical thought and debate and I don’t mind acting silly once in a while I always have my students participate in a sense that their opinion matters about classes and assignments. I’m currently in the process of correcting 150 pages in art history essays, preparing six weeks of classes, reading Victor Hugo for a musical I should teach about, reviewing my hand outs and preparing didactic material for my classes, considering the work you put in and the pay you get compared to the private sector it’s a bit unfair to pushed into that image of the despotic oppressor of free thought, when you dedicate yourself as a history teacher and art history teacher to do exactly the opposite. Still there are excesses and I definetely am not superteacher, but consiering the dedicated teachers I’ve met I feel that someone should vouch for them.
Pink Floyd is cool by the way and so is fuck authority by Pennywise and fuck the police by NWA or pretty vacant by the sex Pistols but we’re not puppets to an indoctrinating machine, as a teacher you do care about your students even those that screw up but a first thing to accept when doing this profession is that there’s no such thing as a good job done. I treasure the attention and kindness of my pupils that’s what I do it for.
Peace
but for somw good teachers, who loved and encouraged us, civilisation would have never formed, so take heart dear thomas, usually what happnes is that 5% of any ‘community’ gets notorious fame and then it starts appearing that 95% are notorious !!
we salute all the teachers who have taught us,

“If the day is not my friend, it is my teacher.” chin. wisdom
Overheard and true conversation at school pick up in London:
A mother is waiting for her daughter at the classroom door, the headmistress is calling the children, “ah Lucy, my star pupil, she has been absolutely wonderful”,
“Why, what has she done?” asked the Mother a little amazed. The Headmistress quickly looking for something to say, and then suddenly looks pleased with herself and showing a flash of her pearly white teeth exclaims:
“Everything I told her to do, and that is how I like it”.
(… reminded me of the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland)

Yesterday I could swear I heard in the metro on the radio: “But we’re never gonna survive unless we got a little – faith” (the last word whispered)
Today checking the lyrics I read – “crazy”.. but then, yesterday and still today I feel like it was just what I then needed to hear.
Seal – “Crazy”
Josephine – going through some difficult time
Yes, closed. I believe it fulfilled its task.
I am a teacher and think that my job is the most important and all that is just nonsense!
Thanks for giving an opportunity to show “here and now”. It is not said that your job or vocation is not important. But do not need to reject people’s opinions. I am sad that you take it so personally. I respect your vocation, you are the one that take over when the kid leaves to pass to another stage. We hand over our kids who spent most of their days in a little society that needs to teach them … that is when most of the time other bricks come … so, a kid is then influenced by other Authorities, and most of the time, going in contradiction to the parents’ view. I try to do my best to give importance to the teacher’s point of view, to the rules of the little society, to my children’s point of view, to mine, and try to blend all time, etc … I do not reject ultimately but try to comprehend and learn and change and/or to accept with serenity what needs to be accepted. Reading your comment, it felt like a brick thrown.
I hope that you receive my words with the essence that transport them, the savor of wishing to share without wanting to hurt.
Cordially, Jojo.
Teachers leave them kids alone .that’s absolutely a great ideal education!nowadays ,when teachers leave them kids alone ,kids will keep studying their books for they have to get the enough marks into colleague and just so on……
most of people feel unsatisfied with the education system ,why is it still the same way ?as a mother ,why did I have no dare to let my child play his way ?
Yes ,I have no dare !
I remember being in high school doing backstage work which included the sound system for the school assemblies, and on our last assembly we played “another brick in the wall” while the teachers where leaving the stage… There where those teachers who smiled as they tried to see us in the room at the back of the hall, and the other were displeased.
No guess who we felt where the better teachers.
Rupert
I love that song too!!!! Great Song!
I still remember my school days and my teachers. Now, my kids are going through the same thing and I completely understand them. We are all just another brick in the wall, but it is up to us what kind of brick we want to be, and what impact we want to leave to the World around us. Teachers should teach children other things apart from the knowledge they they acquired for that purpose. And to do that, they would have to have additional skills, inner knowledge and lots of other things, that some teacher naturally possess. It is sad that these days lots of children from high school find it better to be on the street, than in the school.

As 18 years old 12th class sudent I can say, that school(mediacore school with no “special” features :P) never will be place where creativity without borders will be accepted and most of all, school is not the place where student will be free. Student will be free only when he/she is not a student. :D And what I mean is that, students don’t need to be students in school. They need to stand and talk for their opinions and firstly, without parental involvment(even if that is only 5th grader), because 12 years students spend half of their time in school and school is also social environment and if we don’t stand up for our values, than values is not a values i think.(And about values – school don’t and can’t put them in our “pockets”, only we can choose and take.)
These lessons I’ve taken from my own experience. Three or four years ago my class teacher looked at me like on “one of that crazy,silent-loud, peace-disturber” and now, when I took the road of light and that road connected me with peoples who have one common thing with me(I think not only one, but primarly) – writing.
We met in young writers seminarium(in august) where I also was selected(thats only a miracle from my point of view :)). And now in some ways when I readed some poetry there and here I think teachers and specially class teacher finally found answers to their questions of what I am. (thats hard question even for me, but with time it becomes clearer and in some ways, easier).
And about spirituality – in our country education system forgets about joy or something like that.
About teachers – from 35 only five in our school is a real teachers and deserves this title.
About song – revolutionary, I like this song. These ideas never get old, because there is always rebels.

There’s one other song I should like to add:
Bob Marley’s ‘Could you Be Love’
“Don’t let them fool you..
Or even try to school you..
You’ve got a life to live,
so go to hell, if what you’re thinking
is not right”

When my daughter was due to be born 16 years ago I read by chance a small article in a magazine, little did I know at the time that those words would guide me through parenting my daughter.
The article said “One woman asked me once, how have you brought up your daughter to be such a wonderful, balanced and happy teenager, how do you control her?” The other woman replied “That is exactly it… I don’t ‘control’ her, I GUIDE her”.
There words have stayed with me and allowed to help me pull back when I feel myself trying to gain control of my daughters life. I remember the article and step back from the situation and remember it is important to let my daughter be free to be who she is whilst gently guiding her along her path in a responsible parenting way.
A few years ago my daughter went through a very difficult time at school. For her it was soul destroying to attend. We decided on the option of home schooling and I watched her flourish and grown and enjoy studying. She passed all her exams with brilliant marks and is now getting to the attend of an amazing book that she has been writing for almost 3 years. I am so proud of her and am pleased we found the balance between what society wanted from us and what was best for her.

CHILDREN LEARN WHAT THEY LIVE
If a child lives with criticism, He learns to condemn.
If a child lives with hostility, He learns to fight.
If a child lives with ridicule, He learns to be shy.
If a child lives with shame, He learns to feel guilty.
If a child lives with tolerance, He learns to be patient.
If a child lives with encouragement, He learns confidence.
If a child lives with praise, He learns to appreciate.
If a child lives with fairness, He learns justice.
If a child lives with security, He learns to have faith.
If a child lives with approval, He learns to like himself.
If a child lives with acceptance and friendship,
He learns to find love in the world.
Dorothy Law Nolte
Thank you Theresa!
While I read your words I felt my self part of some of them, not all of them not of those I’d like to be.
I just wish I was at least taught to rebel.
God only knows why He had chosen for me to be risen the way I was, but I also had in my life some examples of how I wanted to be risen.
Pain and Happiness has made me who I am but I know too that the tender and loving heart of my parents live in me and has let me learn to be understanding, for that I am grateful, and I just hope that I will learn to be what is left and that at the end I’ll learn to keep balance in everything.
This way no one will be able to control my thoughts because I’ll be able to be like the mountain, strong and sure in myself.

Oh, yes…Is hard to change when you grow up, childhood influence future life, and only a very strong person can pass over certain events and teachings ….
Beautiful! :-)
Dear Paul,
Lately I’ve been learning how little I know and how much more I need to learn. I am re-learning to day dream for I had forgotten I should allow my self to day dream. Today I caught my self day dreaming on my way to work. I was in extasis over the feeling, I realize I must do the same with my children and allow them to fall and get up on their own.
Thank you for your thoughts…

education = IT’S ALL OUT OF CONTROL!
:)
Education, a right? Sure! Obligatory? Hell NO. In my ideal world the children and citizen are allowed and ideally also optionally supported to involve in what they individually enjoy and have interest in.
We are humans, not robots?
Unfoldment of individuality gives richness and abundance in all levels of system?
It gives more contrast, which in turn give more clarity?
/cheers
Tre’ cool! ;)
Not many people like to be controlled, it’s not only kids that are controlled, even adults sometimes are. Some people like to be controlled, most don’t. It’s best to control ourselves before we are controlled.

Being a home educating parent for over 16 years and believing in children and everyone can reach their true potential but letting them “fly” I couldn’t agree more with the choice of song. It was my anthem when we first started our education process for our daughters. What a thrill it has been seeing them develop without the influence of a “system”. Great Choice Paulo!
Reason is afraid of defeat … because it was instructed so! Another brick to construct the wall … So, putting that quote in action permits to break another brick in the wall.
Love, Jojo.
Dear Paul
I join you as a parent who gives the right to her children to rebel and to live their life. What I am very proud is that they are capable of expressing their truth of the moment … needs to had a little bit of responsability in that, equilibrium, but on the way (guidance).
Love, Jojo.
Like this song very much, its words. I battled great with school authorities. Complying, pushing my kids to answer to their demands, trying to bring them to satisfy what the authorities wanted, the important thing was it seems that my children be “good” students. Three of the four complied … but the fourth fought … Vincent! The Warrior! Imagine, your kid is 5, 6, 7 years old and all the time you receive this note … He makes a noise with his mouth, he smiles too much, when he is ok in class, it’s outside, to intense, plays “boy”s games … cowboys, pirates, boxe … those hold violent messages … needs to stop … and then, what … walk during 15 minutes in a box … Vincent became a bit disturbed with those “adults”. He grew more and more anxious. He got hit by a car (hit and run) and was present when a tornado came (small but it scared him so much). For a year, he feared getting out. He had to go to school … was watching all the time outside, nervous, not attentive. Notes: Your son is not attentive, does not work enough, seems elsewhere, not a “good” student … Year after year, explaining and trying to have empathy … response: If I start to give attention to your son, I will have to do it to others … Meetings started, need to find a way to bring back Vincent to the track … but Vincent was drifting away. He was also very observant and sensitive. He had no trust in those adults who, for what he observed, did not give a damn of who he is but only wanted to do their work, etc … Plus Vincent has that awareness and started in Secondary 1 confronting the Authorities to the basis of the teachings. Notes: Your son is arrogant, not complying, “a revolutionary”. Meetings again, psychologists … by the way the test showed that he is well over the average for a kid his age! I fought so much that having paid a private psychologist that came to assist, I was able to prevent any drug thing for my kid. Today, at 15, the Director called me and said that he was impressed. Why? Last year, I called and said that the man at the last meeting was not even my husband, and that next time I will send my neighbor. That I refuse to play that game anymore. That all they are interested in is themselves and then for me the answer to many problems is not the kids, it’s them and their way of seeing education, of bringing education, of neglecting the most important … education of the soul, learning about oneself, learning how to communicate … but those who instruct are like the blind pastor that leads the group. Mostly do not know who they are, what they are here for, what is the purpose of life … they are just robot that were instructed to become who the society wants them to become with subtile manners. So, to that Director I told him that I know that my son’s interests is not of his concern, and that is ok. But having to choose between him and my son, I choose to trust my son, for I know who he is, which he does not know. I told him that they should learn to be in relation with the kid, learn about him instead of judging. The law says until 16 for school. I told him that if I was not obliged, I would deliver him from this hard task of “handling” my son. I told him that my son is on his path and that I trust that he will achieve, even if he is thrown out of school. His path will be more difficult, since he will not have the “absolute benediction of the government meaning papers, diplomas” but that he will achieve what he needs to achieve. I decided that now was time to let my son become responsible for who he is and let go. What happened … no more phone calls, notes, maybe 2 that I sent back with how I am empathic to their problems but unable to intervene since I am not there, they are the ones who are “adults”. Then, my son tells me that the Director and professors started talking with him, and even that he was no more punished but listened to about how he view the event that just happened. The Director took the time to let him be free … he called me by error one day saying that Vincent was letting himself go, that he let him free but maybe will have to revise … and then a phone call saying that he had to call me to tell me that Vincent passed all and that he was really impressed and that he needed to tell me. I told him I was happy and that it seemed that when I let go of that battle and let the opponents free, something happened. He recognized that what I did what the “good thing”. I could tell so much about what I learned of the under of that school thing … was hurt many times, but one day I decided that that circus was enough for me. My son had that fear that he confessed of loosing his identity if he complied. He understood that he could comply to the basic but still stands up when he sees injustice, an adult not responsible in an intervention, etc … He is not perfect, but he always had that sensibility. He reads a lot, and the day he feel on The Alchimist, Maktub, he was touched. I cannot follow him on all but he has always all that talk about organizations, communities that control, Illuminati, fraternities, always check the symbols … I am eager to see where his path will lead him … he is an intense boy, sees things, feel things … Well, that was my comment and I love and love and love that song.
Love, Jojo.
Jojo you are an hero!

You are a brave mom. Wishing you and your kids lot of happiness ans success. Warm hugs
how i feel for your son, and my son, now 9 years old is in the same league, so many remarks, and every time it’s me who has to go talk to his teachers.
if u choose to be diffrent from teh heard, not because u want to be diffrent, but because u just enjoy being yourself, society does not look kindly at you, society does not recognise individuals, it recognises bricks in the wall.
i beleive, facing the problems for being true and sensitive, are part of growing up, i just pray that may my son gain sterngth from every opposion he faces, and may he learn to express himslef without causing much hurt to the established order.

“The aim of public education is not to spread enlightenment at all; it is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed a standard citizenry, to put down dissent and originality”
– Henry Louis Mencken
First, let me say that I think teachers are great, at least to the extent that they are just like everyone else in every other profession – there are some who are truly fantastic, some who are not so fantastic, and some who are downright despotic. Similarly, there are some members of the mafia who are truly noble men – good men. This, however, does not justify or redeem the system of which they are a part. I’m sure there are some very fine cogs to be found even in a old broken watch.
This is what our public school system is (at least here in the US) – an antiquated system, created during and for the industrial revolution, with the purpose of sapping every child of their individuality, discouraging genuine creativity, and fashioning a herd of like-minded young people, each ready and willing to take his or her place as just another brick in the mighty wall of industry and free market economics. Produce and consume, produce and consume… but, whatever you do, don’t think, don’t question the system of which you are a part. If there is any place that children learn NOT to think for themselves, it is in the public school houses of this country. Just shut up, memorize and regurgitate – this is the basic formula.
As old as this song is, it is perhaps even more relevant today than it was when it was first released. Thank you, Paulo, for posting it.
Sincerely,
Savita
Totally in accordance with your thoughts Savita. And also aware that many educators have good intentions. But as they are as we are, he they do not got to the light, they go deeper and deeper in the dark, if they are not responsible in their private life, well, that is the worst part for the kids. I told a director once that he holds one of the biggest treasure in my life, my son, and that he should have well behaved! That is the day I decided that the circus was enough for me. I was ready to go to Court to defend my points of views in Court. I was that lighted up!
Love, Jojo.
As you said, some education systems don’t leave any room for creativity and freedom. But I do happen to have a different experience with my children. They go to an American school and are following the IB system, which allows for creativity and encourage originality. I also appreciate very much how the system embrace the different cultures and religions, by encouraging the students to research and know more about others.
Currently, my 10 years old son is studying religions, he has been researching all different religions: their values, beliefs and their main differences. He has been visiting different worship places and listening to different point of views… He is only 10 and thanks to the education system he is becoming open minded and tolerant.
So, not everything is bad, there are good things about teachers and education systems.
But then again, as parents we do play an important role on how open minded, creative and originals our children are, we can’t attach all responsibility to the teachers and the education system. We are indeed a role model, so if we can’t afford a different school, we can always teach them by sample not to be another brick in the wall.

Great song! It’s a classic in some discotheques of Barcelona :-)

I love this song and having been involved in Education for so many years, I can really identify with it.
It must be remembered that education begins in the home in early childhood. Often, especially in inner-city areas, kids arriving in schools have come from dysfunctioal families, so the teacher’s task is great indeed!
I think that the aim of all teachers, in spite of the Educational System, should be to break down barriers and establish good relationships with the children in order to help them to reach their full potential; to allow them to be themselves and to feel that they are responsible for their own lives. This is important because children will only learn if they WANT to learn and they will NEVER learn under duress or manipulation.
As others have mentioned, we are all in a process of learning and will continue till the end of our lives. Hopefully, we won’t have to encounter too many bricks in the wall, and even if we do, we should never allow ourselves to be influenced or manipulated by them!
I think that Einstein had a good point when he said:
“Imagination is more important than knowledge.”
Maybe, “We don’t need no education, We don’t need no thought control.” !!!
Can not agree more!
We love you Paulo!
Peace and Light to all the children in the world.
“MANHOLE” V.Makanin
Federico Fellini “ORCHESTRA REHEARSAL”.
I think I ‘m a fearful and egoistic mother, although I never think I know best about the life.I really don’t know how to teach my son .How much I envy you so happy father !I can understand my son and allow him to rebel ,but I just can’t stand him waste his time in school !I really get headache at his studying !No more no less……so nice opinion. I have learned a lot about child’s education in this blog ! thanks a lot .
How do you teach your child to rebel? We live in cities that are so crowded, where there is so much to take into account; it becomes a task to teach ones children that they don’t have to blend in all the time. That they have a right to choose their own way! My daughter is pretty smart, maybe smarter than a lot of other children and she’s emotionally smart too. Now that sounds like a good thing, and it is, but the coin has another side to it, because understanding how things work at the age of ten can be overwhelming, can prevent a child from standing up for her own interrests.
Since yesterday i’ve been humming working class hero by marianne faithfull and bouncing ideas of how to help my daughter to claim more freedom. All i can ever come up with is claiming it for her. Or to give the example myself, and even that doesn’t have to result into that she claims freedom for herself too. It’s tough times ….
This was a very popular album! I like the metaphors here.
Thinking about my own wall, and opening. What do I accept, that contributes to adding another brick?
To live without oppression.
Was listening to Ladysmith Black Mambazo earlier. So exhilarating! Music does that, as does working with my hands.
Thank you Paulo, Love to All, Jane : )
… the grey London skyline… that seems to be never changing at the moment…
This song was written many years ago, and things have got a lot worse with the education system in this country since then.
It is not only children who are affected but parents also. I CANNOT believe how many restrictions are placed on me as a human being by the school system in London…
For example, when this song was written, it was possible to take your children on holiday, during term time, now this is seen to be a MAJOR sin only to be permitted in exceptional cases, and you could be sentenced to three months imprisonment or fined thousands of pounds if you do without permission.
The result, that due to the extortionate price rises during school holiday times, a lot of parents can’t afford to take their kids on holiday, when surely a holiday is educational in itself? No apparently getting 20 hours of English and maths lessons is seen to be more beneficial!?!?! Even for a five year old!
Also if you child is sick, as mine has been recently, unlike when this song was written, when a parent could write a sick note to explain their absence, NOW (at least in my daughters primary school), you have to have their medicine bottles photocopied…and are treated as “GUILTY until proved INNOCENT”.
I have never committed a crime in my life, and yet I am treated without any trust and my responsibility as a parent is being totally undermined by the State System.
I have also heard of one parent who is on the run because they were “CAUGHT” shopping with their infant one afternoon in a local precinct, during school time…
WHY? Because of government statistics, and the Ofsted report… everything is targets, targets, targets…even teachers are affected by them, but that is another subject.
It is shocking, how much control is placed on people now in this country… yes they see everyone as just another brick in the wall…. and that is what they want, bricks, lifeless, souless, controllable, inanimate bricks, that will go where they are put and stay there without any question, until they they have served their purpose, and are dead and of no use to anyone.
Thanks for reading.
Teacher, leave them kids alone!
What memories…It applies to our country too. But the danger of indoctrination is not gone, we must be aware.
They teach us lots of useless thing in leave, and forget about the most vital.
Spirituality.

I think sometimes to reconsider being teacher.
Another sad thing is when some few teacher talk about daring , creativity, open mind, but they dont want really to meet such student that apply the new ideas.
in the advent of advancement of technology, to control one’s thought is next to impossible…. just wondering what comes to your mind in posting this song?though i like the song, but it seems like unusual for you to post stuff like this lol!
We often forget we are just another brick in the wall! We want the company as well as we want be understanding than others! I’ll always reminds myself:i am just the other brick in the wall!
sorry ,it is outstanding ,we want to be outstanding than others ,that sort of stupid ideas make us to take each one around as potential enemy .we fight with others meanwhile we fight with ourselves ,we begin to forget we’re all just another brick in the wall .we are so lack of the security ,that’s even the powerest Country as like the United states tend to look for one enemy!we forget the sevurity feeling is just in our heart !you would never find it outside by any thing.
Dear Paulo
My favorite song and one of my list of progresive rock group, that include: Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppeline. The Lastest progresive rock, Porcupine Tree follow the way of Pink Floy, and Dream Theater follow the way of King Crimson.
The last
“Wrong, Do it again!”
“If you don’t eat yer meat, you can’t have any pudding. How can you
have any pudding if you don’t eat yer meat?”
“You! Yes, you behind the bikesheds, stand still laddy!”

By the way, I’m waching “Casablanca” Movie 1942.
Thanks for the gift.
Every Breath You Take, the Police, yes we dont need thought control…but with all this technology we can watch every move
I love, love… this song. all of us bring a revolution inside, a kid.
But I thing yes… we need thoughts control, somes!!!
Respect teachers, they or we are the resum of the society, we do what we are plus what the government want or expect.
And now, I’m going to lisen again the song, one more time.
Ahhh Paulo…
I’m a teacher myself and I use this song to remind myself of what NOT to do… so I try my best to teach the kids how to think, not what to think…
Thank you for the reminder…
Vida
Excellent choice of song!I think Pink Floyd captured well where often the foundation of the wall begins.
Awesome!!!! Pink Floyd!!!
This song reminds me of the times when I was at High School.
Some friends of mine and I used to sit in the court of the school, next to the window of the directory, I believe it was it, and started singing this song as crazy that we were. The other students, older than us, passed by looking at us. It was so funny, but I wonder how come that no professor came out to say something to us.
In real life we never stop being students, with some teachers who will want to control us in one way or another.
But these kind of teachers forget that to be a good teacher you have to keep being a good student too, other wise : “All in all you’re just another brick in the wall” heheheheheh

A Floyd fan i see!!??!
A brilliant revolutionary song…
Paradox … I remember once I told them “you say my son should not forget this or that, that he is grown up, capable of this and that” … and then you spent many time asking for me to intervene in matters where I have no power. You like to say that my son at this age should be an “adult”. So then, in this matter of difficult relation with my son, I trust my son that he should be capable … he does not need his mother to intervene, as you do not need me, since you are capable too” :-
Happy for you that your son has the privilege to have that kind of instruction, one that helps him become open minded and tolerant. Happy for you that you have a good experience with the teachers and education system. For you, not all is bad. And for me also, but for me it has asked of me to denounce and stand for those values that your son receives in that school, which in my country are written, said but “in fact” not the case. Your last paragraph brings back to me the famous quote of the school authorities that tend to believe that the responsibility lies on the parent’s side. I agree that for many that is the case. But in my case it was not the case, since I am a parent which tries since the first day to be that model, which went to get formations, attended conferences, worked on myself in wanting to become aware of where do I start to say this, ask that, punish this or that. On 4 children, two complied to all in silence, and at 17 when they were ready to go to the two years before University, they collapsed. One is getting back, on is on his way. My third, at 7, feel in depression and we discovered that she was a victim of many little girls that always went to the professor to talk that she did this and that and during meeting sessions once a week in class Sarah was brought up in front of the class and those who had things on her could “express”. When I changed Sarah school, she became happy and well, and the professor called my very sad and said that those little girls had intimated during the week-end children and that she understood that Sarah was not the problem. Why did she not listen to me? Because an Authority cannot demonstrate its fault in that system. She said she banished those meetings, and I told him that before doing group therapy she should get a formation. Because that is the problem … they are human like us and many are in the dark. I saw adult in school screaming “Hey, X did not take his Ritalin”, while a class of friends was passing by. You should have seen the little kid’s face … dark sarcasm, no respect at all, humiliation, abuse of power. That I see and saw a lot … And then Vincent, the one that confronted and resisted and denounced that gym prof who called him a bad name because of it’s long hair (which I the mother love and decided to keep long), the other that punishes my other because he is going on vacation during class time (because his mother decides that that is the vacation she can do since me I work in summer and not them) … not able to come to the parent and say the truth and passing through the kids … I could give you a list Gabi … and that was in private school which I paid for all of them and public school where now my son Vincent goes. For me, most of the human race are robotic and have a path to go, so the teachers and those in charge of the education are in that bag. I pray every day for the kids who are there … I know of one who is 6 with 3 kinds of pills (severe anxiety). Yes, his mother is the source in this case, but as a teacher, I would be sensible to that kid and try to find out what he needs to feel more secure, try to find out some ways with the parent … next quote well utilized: Do not have time, I have 30, I am tired, no help from … and another … children trapped in the feud between teachers and their employer for raise, better conditions … that too is something that I was witness. Oh yes … a kid that was put in isolation with nothing during all week of class … my son, and many others … because the teacher, an adult, a role model in her own family, could not come with other means or find time to try to secure that child who did not trust … not his mother but the Authority. Each day I would break a brick and the next day another one was put on … Well, for me that is my story with teacher and school. You know, my son Vincent wishes to be a professor or a director! Funny! He seems to have a vocation there and that was the path he had to go in order to maybe become that teacher that will make a difference … in our system.
Love, Jojo.
Ohh, kids must be kids. We say” You wont find a beautiful old lady and a good kid( meaning silent, stiff)….he he. Or “Be aware if there is silence in kids room, they do something bad”…ha ha.
The big problems are today drugs and weapons, else, bit of noise is not grave thing. And each child must be taken as his character, in different way.
Some are active, some silent, but all have their own qualities, and teacher must work on that qualities, respecting personalities. Love
Alexandra
Dear Jojo,
Parents do play an important role on children education. There are several parents at my son’s school who are opposed to exposed their children to different cultures and beliefs. They think that the school is trying to convert them into something they are not, so they affect their children attitude by teaching them intolerance and antagonism to anything that does not agree with their line of beliefs. What a teacher and the school can do to prevent that? Can they forced the parents to teach their children to be open?
If a child is exposed to any type of emotional abuse at home and then he/she expresses his/her anger at school with other children, shall the teachers segregate that student? Can they sent him/her for counseling without his/her parents approval? Which rights should prevail yours or his?
Can a teacher or the school do anything without the parents approvals? So, who has the final word on what can be done and what not? For me is us, the parents of the child.
So you see, that even if the system and the teachers are good, parents still have the last say on how the children will be.
One good teacher can’t change a bad system, a good system can’t succeed with bad teachers and a good teacher working for a good system can’t change a child without his/her parents help.
What I’m trying to say here is that we all play an important role on our children education: parents, teachers and systems.

Yes, we all play an important role on our children education. Must become day after day more aware of our role in a child’s psyche. When I read that one good teacher can’t change a bad system, it comes to one “good” person cannot change a bad system … I believe that one can make a difference, and another, another. A good teacher working for a good system cannot change a child but can help him, even if his parents are not capable … that teacher can make a difference in a child’s psyche. Like the other sending of Paolo, need to reconstruct the human before the system. Just hope that that discussion helps to each of us become aware. The parents have the last say … there come a time when the parents have no power or need to let go in order to let the soul (his child) go his path … that is between him and his Creator. As for the parent help, that is what I offered all the time, but the system wishes only to comply to how they see and how they settle not to make place to novelty and change but to replace the brick in the wall. That is my opinion and remains for the moment.
Love to you Gabi and thanks for sharing. I appreciate. Jojo.
Kids are like us under the same Universal laws. They are the student and we should be the Master until they become their own Master (and to so, need to have to vist both ends and let them go on their adventure). I believe that all is plan in sort of a way, and even if we try our best, if one’s path is to go over there, he will go at a moment or another.
Love to you Alexandra.
That is what I think, minimal or better no intervention, letting the child and the adult in this little society call school develop communication, mutual respect, etc … but in fact the other side when all goes well you hear nothing and when all goes wrong they have that tendancy to say “take care of that problem”, in which today I give back because that is not my problem but theirs to deal with … collaboration is always good, but in collaboration need the two and to be open and humble and empathic.
Love, Jojo.
thanks for your comment. Just know that when you get it right it’s the most rewarding job in the world emotionally. But it takes a lot of work and you can be confronted with severe problems of a social or psychological nature, etc. I’ll never be able to spend a 100 grand on a sword quest but I don’t have to I guess, if I get it right I can get magic everyday in the classroom.
And if that’s not possible at least a few good laughs. Still I’ve taught my students Smith, Marx, Kondratieff, Malthus, Hobsbawn, Nietzsche Freud Darwin Elias etc, they know how the 2008 financial crisis happened and my sixth graders are up to date with the latest research WWII and on the way have seen scenes from the best movies I could find. In three months I’ve used Far and Away, Germinal, Enemy at the Gates, Stalingrad, Das Boot, Apocalypse the second world war, Nosferatu triumph das grauens, Modern times, Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Rebel without a cause, Citizen Kane, Dali and Disney’s animation film, Apocalypse Now, Kill Bill (with a feminist twist I juxtaposed it with the bellona image from the early 15th til the nineteenth century in European art), Nanking Nanking, Maurice De Wilde, the world at war rise of the dictators, famous battles Waterloo,….
For all I know from tests and finals it works. I still do feel a bit more debate is in order but it’s a constant balancing exercise of time.
The only thing I’m oppressing is cruelty whether in word, act or thought.
