I cannot sleep in your prescence.
In your absence, tears prevent me.
You watch me My Beloved
On each sleepless night and
Only You see the difference
Looking at my life
I see that only Love
Has been my soul’s companion
From deep inside
My soul cries out:
Do not wait, surrender
For the sake of Love.
If you can’t smell the fragrance
Don’t come into the garden of Love.
If you’re unwilling to undress
Don’t enter into the stream of Truth.
Stay where you are.
Don’t come our way.
All year round the lover is mad,
Unkempt, lovesick and in disgrace.
Without love there is nothing but grief.
In love… what else matters?
Love is our Mother and
The way of our Prophet.
Yet it is in our nature
To fight with Love.
We can’t see you, mother,
Hidden behind dark veils
Woven by ourselves.
Do you want to enter paradise?
To walk the path of Truth
You need the grace of God.
We all face death in the end.
But on the way, be careful
Never to hurt a human heart!
Do you know what the music is saying?
“Come follow me and you will find the way.
Your mistakes can also lead you to the Truth.
When you ask, the answer will be given.”
The Master who’s full of sweetness
Is so drunk with love, he’s oblivious.
“Will you give me
some of your sweetness?”
“I have none,” he says,
unaware of his richness.
You know what love is?
It is all kindness, generosity.
Disharmony prevails when
You confuse lust with love, while
The distance between the two
Is endless.
This Love is a King
But his banner is hidden.
The Koran speaks the Truth
But its miracle is concealed.
Love has pierced with its arrow
The heart of every lover.
Blood flows but the wound is invisible.

Poem is awesome ………
I was n love before …….
I lost my love …. :(
words reminds me f my past loVe ..
??? True loVe ???
To the great Rumi ( Mevlana)…
recently read a novel called ‘the 40 rules of love’, telling about Rumi, his beloved and love from Elif Safak. would advise all interested in Rumi to read it…
je pense au chiffre trois – t roi s (tu es roi) “I, me, myself.”
En cuanto a mi vida
Veo que solo el amor
ha sido compañero de mi alma
desde lo mas profundo ,mi alma grita
no espere,la entrega..
en aras del amor..
Hermoso..me encanta..besos
besos.

In the world…where lovers found themselves drowning inside love. Thank you for finding Rumi
VICEVERSA
Tengo miedo de verte
necesidad de verte
esperanza de verte
desazones de verte
tengo ganas de hallarte
preocupación de hallarte
certidumbre de hallarte
pobres dudas de hallarte
tengo urgencia de oírte
alegría de oírte
buena suerte de oírte
y temores de oírte
o sea
resumiendo
estoy jodido
y radiante
quizá más lo primero
que lo segundo
y también
viceversa.

Abraços Paulo!
P.S.: Benedetti reading his amazing poem: http://diasdevoragem.com/2009/08/20/vice-versa-mario-benedetti/

I think that you can always do more – believing in yourself and whatever you feel….
If someone doesn`t understand you, it can mean that you don`t share the same realities, too
But, they have a right to have their reasons, which don`t have to be yours…
keep on discovering yourself…and you will win any/every battle if you find the right way from reality to dreams and vv…
All the best,
Violeta
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with so many people, dear Mr. Coelho
I appreciate that very much, because only very spiritual beings don`t forget that they are humans!!!
With love,
Regards,
Violeta

Qué bello.
It’s a beautiful poem. Thank you for sharing it.
The Persian language is very beautiful and at times hard to understand because each sentence and even each word has a story of its own. It’s very complex.
Thank you for a beautiful poem!
Love,
C.
To hear the Whisper of the Beloved we must be at peace and in silence. This is not always easy when we are caught up in our everyday lives.
To hear the Whisper we must be listening. But are we listening, or are we listening to ourselves? This is the question I ask myself. My answer is important for it is this Whisper inside me which will help and guide me on my journey, and bring me safely home.
A nice poem….. it really gives the true meaning of love.
A poet of very deep understanding or connection with the power within can spell these kind of words.
Thanks for sharing.
Viva la Persian culture.
Persian language is full of love poems as i know.
I also love poems of Ahmad Shamlou.
Thanks for posting it here.
Bests,
Stephan
I LOVE Rumi!!! His words are so beautiful!
I’m convinced, understanding these words, can make us fly!
I love Rumi’s Love Poems.
TRUE love requires the total SURRENDER of self!
The glass MUST break…!
The arrow MUST pierce…!
If you’re unwilling to undress ,don’t come to love !I like this poem very very much .I ‘d digest it bit by bit.if we ‘re affraid of hurt ,don’t come to love;if we can’t undress our concept of others ,don’t come to love ……
I would like to react to this statement:
Coelho: In my latest book, The Witch of Portobello, I wanted to explore the prejudices that we have when we go for a spiritual quest. I was reading Karen Armstrong’s book on the Prophet Muhammad (Harper Collins), and there is a part that she mentions, “each recitation began with the invocation: In the name of Allah, the Compassionate (al-Rahman), and the Merciful (al-Rahim)…the divine names Al-Rahman and al-Rahim are not only grammatically feminine, but related etymologically to the word for ‘womb
http://www.islamonline.net/servlet/Satellite?c=Article_C&cid=1178724256768&pagename=Zone-English-ArtCulture%2FACELayout
ABOUT THE INVOCATION :
the above tranlation “In the name of Allah, the Compassionate (al-Rahman), and the Merciful (al-Rahim)…”is inccorect
The right translation would be ” In the name of Allah, the most Merciful ( Al Rahman) and most Gracious (Al Raheem )
Kindly note that word Al Rahman (the merciful )is not related to the word Al Rahm (the uterus), but to the word Al Rahma( the mercy). Al Rahman is one of names (and same time his atributes) of Allah (God) and it is and adjective, where Al serves like a definite article the in english.
Al rahma = mercy =noun
Al rahman = merciful=adjective
(normally in arabic definitive article Al is not used with adjectives, but with nouns, but this case is exception, because these are Allah atributes and were revealed in Holy Quran in this version.)
Seems to me like Rumi is talking about the Spirit. Many reasons make me appreciate poems. One of them is that poets seem to connect to the temperament of the warrior and explain what can be least explicable. Don Juan recognized that poets were profoundly conscious of the link of communication with the Spirit, intuitively conscious but not deliberately and pragmatically like the sorcerer. Carlos Casteneda … Do not know if what Don Juan believes of poets applies to Rumi. At the moment, am totally in the learnings of Carlos Casteneda … for me, at the present moment, I seem to see here that Rumi is speaking about the Spirit that wants to be one with me, that is there all the time, inside and outside.
Thank you for sharing Paulo, I love the poem.
“Love is a symbol of eternity. It wipes out all sense of time, destroying all memory of a beginning and all fear of an end.”
I agree.
These people spekaing of love say funny things !!
even god could not imagine existnace of love withot lust, hence what he made lust on way to love. imagine how many of us will bother with love etc.. if there was no lust.
Paulo has closed WOL section, probably it had outlived its utility. But i am sure he is as generous as ever in allowing people to say things, even not very directly connected to ‘topic’ so here i go
folks, munch on this – why is it that no two enlightned masters have ever workd togather, mahavira and buddha did not even exchange plesantries, though were in same ‘hotel’ at one time. why no two enlightned human beings been able to be seen in groups !! going by this observed logic, will earth not become hell, if many many people enlightned at same time. society is all about team work, enlightned people don’t seem to enjoy working under others, less enlightned people. historically speaking.

Many years before, I had been touched emotionaly and confused before that much devotion that Don Juan put in helping me. I could not imagine the reason of all the kindness. It was evident that he did not need me in his life. He was not investing in me. But I had learned through hard experiences in my life that nothing was free, and the fact of being uncapable to see the nature of the reward of Don Juan made me unease. One day I asked Don Juan the benefice that he retrieved from our association. He said Nothing that I would understand. Even if you could understand what it is about you will not probably like to hear. Do you really want to hear the Truth? Sometimes, it is better not to touch the profound truth because in this case the truth is like the base that holds many things, the angular rock. If we look close that that rock, we will not like what we will see, and I would like to prevent this for you. But since you want to know, I will.
What I do for you is free. You do not have to pay. Like you know, I was impeccable with you. And you know that my impeccability with you is not an investment. I do not form you so that you take care of me when I will be to weak to take care of me. But I take from our association something that has an value that has no price, some sort of reward for my impeccable attitude with that angular rock I was talking about. And what I retrieve is that very thing that maybe you will never comprehend. If you judge me on the my attitude with you, you will have to admit that I was one of patience and coherence. But what you ignore is that to achieve, I had to fight for impeccability like I have never done before. To take time with you, I had to transform myself every day, behave myself at a high cost.
Don Juan was on the spot … what he was saying did not please me at all.
I told you you were not going to like and comprehend. The reasons of the warriors are simple but their finesse is extreme. It is a rare occasion for a warrior to have a true chance to be impeccable despite profound feelings. You gave me that chance. The act through which I give freely and impeccably brings youth to me and renew my emerveillement. What I retrieve from my association has for me a high value effect. I am your debitor.
Wanted to share that extract from Carlos Casteneda to you Aditya. Sorry for the few french words. Could not all translate. Doing my best. I am eating and eating from that for 3 weeks now … Don Juan and Paolo are Warriors that are guides. I here thank Paolo to have being impeccable …
Love, Jojo
he he…Adytia, interesting indeed.
But lust is ok whitin a relation that implies love.
Nevertheless lust does not equal love, guess is easy to understand why.
munching…you silly man…one example to contradict your hopelessness…didn’t John Paul II and Jassir Arafat meet up to ‘exchange pleasantries’?
what a beautifull words..
same with other,, can we know who is rumi,mr?
your friends, right? hehe..
yup..love is about accepting and appreaciating..
I am still in a rumine about that one!:)
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..Some things are so beautiful that I can’t find any words.
Cry,talk,whisper,cry-LoveStory.
“Les chuchutements du bien-aime
Je ne peux pas dormir en ta presence.
En ton absence, les larmes m’en empechent.
Tu me regardes, Mon Bien-Aime
“Me donneras-tu
Rumi
Mr. Coelho… Never failed to amaze, inspire me each time I read your work… One of the true reasons for never giving up on life… Blessed to be alive when you were around.
Thank you much.
Dante’s Prayer

When the dark wood fell before me
And all the paths were overgrown
When the priests of pride say there is no other way
I tilled the sorrows of stone
I did not believe because I could not see
Though you came to me in the night
When the dawn seemed forever lost
You showed me your love in the light of the stars
Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
Please remember me
Then the mountain rose before me
By the deep well of desire
From the fountain of forgiveness
Beyond the ice and the fire
Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
Please remember me
Though we share this humble path, alone
How fragile is the heart
Oh give these clay feet wings to fly
To touch the face of the stars
Breathe life into this feeble heart
Lift this mortal veil of fear
Take these crumbled hopes, etched with tears
We’ll rise above these earthly cares
Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
Please remember me
Please remember me

when one is new to love it’s difficult to control it when you get hurt by the person you love. It’s a weird situation. When it happened to me, I felt sad and happy at the same time…
mr. Yes…wonderful, and amazing few of the ideas I used in my poems, of course my creations far from that of Rumi. I love so many things from that poem, smelling the fragrance of love, being drunk of love, the arrow , getting undressed for we love truth…
I could say he wrote a perfect poem, I love that Rumi now.
Thank you for sharing
Of course your creations far from Rumi ,and you’d never be Rumi ,but you are Alexandra .and you’ll a new creat Alexandra way! There is only one Rumi,if you are following Rumi ,you ‘d be Rumi ,no special at all!so do Alexandra and work your own way out .someday we’d talk about Alexandra as same as Rumi!
Hi Alexandra
I agree with Gaurry. Be yourself in your poetry and let the “real you, shine through”!
Love, Theresa
Love is a wild beast and is God… :)
Who is Rumi?

The wise GOOGLE, dear Yoomi!
LOVE,

Great poem. No one expresses love better than Rumi, but one can share the sentiments by reading his poems with his or her love.
what is dream?
Nice poem, And I think that love is the end of every thing what we doing.
But you only can be in harmony when you gift love and receive it or you only can gift what you have received.
But I like the poem it is full of deeply feelings.
Love
Eugenia
A beautiful poem from Rumi. So you love Rumi too, eh?
Thanks for sharing :)
Oh! Thank you, THELMA!
You are so sweet!
ya lust evaoprates after it is satisfied, for teh time being, love goes on getting more and more condensed, more refined, finally lust evaporates totally and love alone remains !! something like that ???
