Conversation in heaven
Abd Mubarak was on his way to Mecca when one night he dreamed that he was in heaven and heard two angels having a conversation.
“How many pilgrims came to the holy city this year?” one of them asked.
“Six hundred thousand”, answered the other.
“And how many of them had their pilgrimage accepted?”
“None of them. However, in Baghdad there is a shoemaker called Ali Mufiq who did not make the pilgrimage, but did have his pilgrimage accepted, and his graces benefited the 600,000 pilgrims”.
When he woke up, Abd Mubarak went to Mufiq’s shoe shop and told him his dream.
“At great cost and much sacrifice, I finally managed to get 350 coins together”, the shoemaker said in tears. “But then, when I was ready to go to Mecca I discovered that my neighbors were hungry, so I distributed the money among them and gave up my pilgrimage”.

A conversa no céu
“Seiscentos mil”, respondeu o outro.
“E, destes todos, quantos tiveram sua peregrinação aceita?”
“Nenhum.

-A ninguno.

A great example of giving is receiving.
really ,thanx 4 sharing, so inspiring
The Kiss for you
Nice history, it dosen’t mean he’s muslim .
He was touching by God.
It is disappointing to read your reply, I have to say it derives from ignorance. Why do you see things from a half opened window. Muslims are good natured people.
They are people who are at peace with themselves God and nature….If you can not see this then you are living in you secluded world. i believe an angle talks to us daily, they guide to do good and move away from evil…its a shame they missed your door.
“Actions are only by intentions, and every man has only that which he intended….” from the hadith of the messenger of Allah may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
Your story is very interesting it shows that God is great and generous .
U want to be a writer of all religions. You are. Thanks.
This is a amazing story and I wish each and every person in this planet start sharing what they can this will be a wonderful place.
A verdadeira “religião” é Amar… incondicionalmente…
God is love!!! You don’t need to go anywhere (Mecca, church, synagogue, temple, etc) to spread love. Spread love and God is with you!!!
GOD is great and the religion is wonderfull.it enriches our lives.however it is sad and shame that people does not
see it this way and does not get the message.
Across all Faiths it is indeed the simplest forms of goodness that truly matter, those that are done unconsciously, out of one’s instincts, and without need for an audience.
Thank you Paulo for this simple reminder of what really counts. Cheers!
bello…paulo…
facundo cabral
I enjoy your wisdom and stories. Blessings.
I love this ~ It makes me reflect. Think. ACT!
I like the story. Reading the posts from people who are Muslims makes me feel there is stress and safety concerns for being who they are. This should not be happening…I think this conflict and violence that a few countries are showing are very much based on political problems and messes that disrespectful, and arrogant politicians and business people have made.
Some of the comments left on this post by my fellow Muslims have upset me. I am from an Islamic culture myself, living now in the Western world. I understand that most Muslims feel misunderstood by the West and especially in the media’s portrayal. So I suppose it is natural for us to take stories like this and turn it into an opportunity as if to say “See, THIS is what we’re all about. Not what the mainstream media tells you!”
If that is how you felt when you read this, then there is a problem. This is a trap that we must not fall into. You all speak of intentions, but none of you have taken into consideration your own intentions. Is your own intention to portray your religion in a positive light? Or is it to let it lead your path to Allah? If it’s the latter, then what significance does the media’s portrayal of Islam have? To me it means nothing whether the West is having a hard time accepting Muslims or not.
Don’t let these portrayals stray you from your path. Don’t let stories like this fill you with pride. Let them fill you with love.
Also, don’t forget there are always different perspectives to everything. Should I be surprised nobody has pointed out that there exist in the same story 600,000 Muslims whose pilgrimage was denied?
Also, let us not forget that all (or at least most) religions are just different paths to the same end. In Christianity, one of the Commandments is to “Love thy neighbor.” This story is just another way of illustrating that point.
With Love,
Egemen
Thanks, Paulo :-)
Our Higher Power blesses the many who are “The Wind Beneath our Wings.” May we bless them too and emulate their actions.
Love and a soft warm breeze to you,
Lainee
This is the essence of Humanity
Life is all about making the needy happy and not expecting anything in return… THATS true love for mankind and love for GOD
from the heart, thank you for this beautiful story. share empathy and compassion
This is beautifully written, and it portrays the very core of Islamic values, Thank you Paulo :)
Thanks for sharing that with us & for all your marvelous writings. But u didn’t write this one, did u?
I know that story from before. It’s a well known story in Islam.
Yes, I SOOO love love this story. I am now going through something similar in my life, only I am not a key player, I am the equivelent of the neighbors needing food. However in my story, A person who advertises themselves as being on a pilgrimage of love for all people and a spiritual leader (in their own mind) decided to not help me. It saddens me so because they just don’t get it. I am getting help, from another friend, and am grateful, but so hurt, because the person who could have helped me was family.
this is the sense of God…
please..could you transalate in italian too..
anyway i like the word that touch the soul..like you do..thanks
Thank for the beautiful words daily.
So beautiful and simple but yet is so hard to sacrifice things for others. Beautiful story.
This is what people tend to forget and urge each year to the pilgrimage but only God knows what in the heart.
Dear Paulo and readers,
I learned something a short while ago, through watching Sufi dancing.
In The Alchemist, you say that dreams are the language of god.
Dreams are prayers in motion. So perhaps this man had another calling?
And my own recent experiences, in making sacrifices for someone else that needed, during an emergency.
It taught me something. I can pray for others and do what I can, from the heart. And Trust prayers. But did not ‘have’ to sacrifice. Suffering is NOT necessary!!
Love and Blessings, thank you Dear Paulo! xo
please translate and in hellenic language you have a lot a fans here thank you in advance
A very deep story, who shows that the intention is just as much (and sometimes enven more) important than the act. God knows what lurks in the depths of our hearts.
Gostei. Realmente as nossas boas ações é que importam.
what a remarkable deed!!! i agree that pilgrim should start from within. Doing righteous ways in fulfilling God’s path is best when done by example. It is nowhere to be found but from within… A lot of people are best showing off doing pilgrims, some i found hypocrite and unreal. Let us all simply follow God’s ways by practicing it.
Thanks Paulo for all your learning and teachings..You are truly an inspiration to mankind. God has sent you forth to awaken our senses…THANKS SO MUCH!!!
C beau!!!!!!!!
great story!!
and i think that the great thing about it is that it shows what worshipping truely is , and the sens of ISLAM !!
allah akbar…..god is the greatest, and this story shows beautifully the meaning of ISLAM which is about the manners but sadly many people don’t get that and think that ISLAM is about the look …it’s all about your intention with god and people around you that counts….nice story with deep meaning …thank you for posting it :)
Merci !! ^^
I don´t understand. . What is the meaning? That he was a good man who was thinking of others or?
Thank you for your wonderful words everyday.!!
The sanctity of human life takes precedence of the “sanctity” of religious rituals….
Beautiful as always Paulo
Thank you for this.
The message is very clear. Reading this brought tears to my eyes. People come first. We are here to help each other without expectation of reward but out of compassion and respect for human life. The rewards do come, just not in a box………. the priceless kind…. Peace and Love in your heart!
i agree; just been experiencing this lesson lately, its so true!!
Louange Dieu, ALLAH.
Merci P.COELHO
I loved this reading because I am a muslim myself, and i know how we are portrayed in the media these days, so its very refreshing to see that people in different cultures acknowledge that this is truly what our religion is about.
Que bonito.
Me gusto mucho!
Stories like this make me proud of being a Muslim :)
Thank you for sharing it Paulo.
