Character of the week: John Lennon

by Paulo Coelho on July 2, 2010

Nothing you can sing that can’t be sung.
Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game. It’s easy.
There’s nothing you can make that can’t be made.
No one you can save that can’t be saved.
Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time – It’s easy.

All you need is love, love is all you need.
_____________________________________

Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans.

I believe in everything until it’s disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it’s in your mind. Who’s to say that dreams and nightmares aren’t as real as the here and now?

If someone thinks that love and peace is a cliche that must have been left behind in the Sixties, that’s his problem. Love and peace are eternal.

If being an egomaniac means I believe in what I do and in my art or music, then in that respect you can call me that… I believe in what I do, and I’ll say it.

Music is everybody’s possession. It’s only publishers who think that people own it.

Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. I think we’re being run by maniacs for maniacal ends and I think I’m liable to be put away as insane for expressing that. That’s what’s insane about it.

Part of me suspects that I’m a loser, and the other part of me thinks I’m God Almighty. Reality leaves a lot to the imagination.

The thing the sixties did was to show us the possibilities and the responsibility that we all had. It wasn’t the answer. It just gave us a glimpse of the possibility.

A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.

John Winston Ono Lennon, MBE (9 October 1940 – 8 December 1980) was one of the founding members of The Beatles

Grande Lennon!

always loved the genius he put in his songs and the beatles’!

one of my all time favorite quotes came from him. “life is what happens while you are busy making other plans”.

true enough, we fail to recognize the essential when our minds are distracted by the world which mostly caters things that are superficial.

sometimes we just have to stay still to feel how it’s like to truly live.

can’t we dream of peace together to make it reality?

Was just talking about John Lennon over this 4th of July holiday. Actually considered the name Lennon for both my sons but it didn’t happen. There’s a GREAT documentary on Netflix called IMAGINE about his life. Lots of unexpected interviews and footage. I highly recommend it!

ahhh, john lennon…..
hmmm, the sixties …

I had in high school an “old” music teacher (she was in her thirties :o)). She worked on her thesis: development of rock music. So, we learned the development of rock from: (1) african music, (2) the first type of jazz sung by the slaves in the field, (3) new orleans, …, Beatles. what a treasure to learn about the development of this music and the lyrics.
she told us so much about the importance of the development of this kind of music …

then she told us how she went to rock concert… at this time, we just rolled our eyes (she was tooo old for this…)
what a memory.

I loved John Legend, long before I met the legend. He existed before my time, but he felt a part of my Soul. I meat him in my dreams, long before my conception in my mommy’s womb. He existed outside of the box, an under-valued asset to the movement of a waking conscious.

I met him in my dreams. And I am glad. And proud. Regarded as insane? Well lick me up and throw away the key then, ’cause I never want to be sane again!

Jah Bless!

True!
We are ruled by those who cannot understand those who can think!!!!

the cry of ages is so.
Where are we going to?
Why can’t we have pluralistic approach to anything and spread love and peace to all, every being.
And leave the idea of punishment and reward to God?

I was fifteen when he was tragically and violently taken from us. Although I knew of the Beatles, on that day John’s life and his music opened up to me. And he’s been in my heart and a part of my life ever since…

OK, now this is great. This afternoon as I was traveling home on the train I was listening to music as I was observing the differnt types of people around me. I’m always fasinated and at the same time deeply moved with all the…saddness, loniless, confusion, arrogance and indifference taking place around me. John Lennon’s wonderful song suddenly came on. I wanted to start singing in front of all these people, as nutty as I am! I didn’t…I think I must have kind of smiled to myself though. And you know what happened? Some strangers sitting around me must have noticed something, because they looked at me and kind of smiled back. As John Lennon wrote and sung, “It’s easy”…

felt like sharing this:
To Sunshine (thanks for last night)

Yeah I’m dreaming now
you touched me and drew me in
every moment of my day you seem to have gotten in
injecting everything with my thoughts of you causing chaos setting up everything in one crazy love driven spin

Yup, I definetely must be dreaming now
the rational path I walked real strict I avoided emotion for the damage it inflicts
In the realm of the heart I was a convict soulsick out of it working hard in solitude out of fear for the alternative surrounded by a wall everincreasing in bricks

But then you made me dream somehow
and now there’s a common dream and slowly, softly, gently the dream revives life’s everything driving doubt and guiltridden nightmares out
whatever be the outcome the rational path is dreary and boring compared to the heart’s route

How inspiring.

So John Lennon is a spiritual musician, after all. Not a stereotypical one, though :)

“Instead of believing, knowing, that each of us is an entire orchestra most of us believe we are only the flute. We listen to idle gossip of a friend, follow the lead of so-called leaders, fit our lives into a mold that was not of our making, tuck our dreams into our pockets, and hope for better things to come.” Gilliand

Thank the heavens that John Lennon did not fall into this trap. Decca Records told his musical group that guitars were on their way out and their hair was too long. The great thing about John Lennon and the Beatles is that they had determined their own worth before they were dealt these blows and decided to be different, and proved to Decca and the world that being different doesn’t make one wrong; it just makes one different.

I continue to be amazed with each new thing I learn about John Lennon and sent an immense thank you through the Universe to him for his example and teachings.

“Just as thoughts, ideas, demands, and influences of others have guided, controlled, and directed most of our lives in the past, it is the personal control of our own minds that now gives us a chance to change our futures for ourselves.” Gilliand

Break through the wall that stands between you and anything you would like to change or achieve. It’s in you; allow yourself the will to do it.

Once again, thank you John Lennon and thank you Paulo for another worthy choice of character.

Sending love your way. ((((( )))))))

Querido Paulo

Reality leaves a lot to the imagination – So true..

there are two songs i loved as a child that my father introduced to and they equally gave me a sense of ‘peace’ and tranquility and hope, and helped me manage with the world when i was not ok with it.. So I used to hum them when i was sad or angry or when something distrurbed me or before i went to bed.. and reality was transformed in a beautiful place where my imagination was the ruler, i was taken to a beautiful place where fairies exist, where lakes sing, where waterfalls and rainbows intermix and that was ‘my’ reality back then.. now if i hum these songs, i am overwhelmed by this feeling again, and i am more centered when all other things are in chaos..
the 2 songs: the one is Imagine by Lennon and the other is “What a wonderful world” by Armstrong..

thank you dearest Paulo for this and all you Wols that make the world a more beautiful place to live in..

Love and Gratitude
Annie

He was a true, free, creative spirit who followed his intuition and his dreams and thereby creating true art, music that will always be listened to. His art has proven to conquer the test of time, because it came from a spiritual origin in the first place.

I am surprised by his wise words, I love the way he think.
The last phrase is wonderful, ” A dream you dream together is reality. ”We can change the world toghether.
And also I think he is right when he says that no one can say thaty a dream is less real that the things we consider so.

John Lennon ,
