10 SEC READING: Purifying the world

by Paulo Coelho on July 28, 2010

EM PORTUGUES: Purificando o mundo
EN ESPANOL: Purificando el mundo

How do we purify the world?- asked a disciple.

Ibn al-Husayn replied:

– There was once a sheik in Damascus called Abu Musa al-Qumasi. Everyone honored him for his great wisdom, but no one knew whether he was a good man.

“One afternoon, a construction fault caused the house where the sheik lived with his wife, to collapse. The desperate neighbors began to dig the ruins; eventually, they managed to locate the sheik’s wife.

“She said: “Don’t worry about me. First save my husband, who was sitting somewhere over there.”

“The neighbors removed the rubble from the area she indicated, and found the sheik. He said: “Don’t worry about me. First save my wife, who was lying somewhere over there.”

“When someone acts as this couple did, she/he is purifying the whole world.”

My opinion is quite the opposite…if we don t help/ love ourselves first, how can we have energy to help/ love others?
It s because I help myself that I can help others…

If you think this is a story about a couple, or a story about marriage or having a person who qualifies as a ‘true love’….THINK AGAIN!

It’s about:

ONE WORLD ONE LOVE.

The only way we can purify the world we live in is to have love for everything & everyone we come into contact with every day of our lives. (Sure, that means opening our hearts to ‘strangers’ and there surely may be some people who prove to be unlovable – but we should always try!).

Now go out and be good!
Peace.

I like this the Sheik was a good man and his wife too. They showed selfless acts by telling the rescue to save the other. I don’t know how many people now a days would do that? There is alot of selfish people in the world.
I would sacrafice my life to save a loved ones because that is the kind of person I am.
This story tells the great good of love and I not only enjoyed learning it, but agree that one selfless act of love is the beginning to purifying the World.

That the true meaning of love. Love is not selfish. It’s pure.He thinks first his wife than himself. I wish someday I could find that true love just like what I read today…Merry Christmas Paulo!(“,)

No hes not saying to be selfless, hes saying if you have been helped even once then do make sure you pass it on and help some else too, being selfless in this case wld be stupid for needs to be alive to help others…

It was good that they both lived. Very Special that the neighbors went to their aid. So unselfish and caring that each one was more concerned with the other.

FLAVIA PEGUERO.

It reminds me of a story which is from Tamil Sangam period(Ancient time)There was little water in a pool in the forest where a a male and a female deer come for drinking the little water which can satisfy the quench of one deer only. The male deer pretends to drink water though it was in dire need of water but allowing his sweetheart to drink that water. It has sacrified its life for its sweetheart!!

A really wonderful story. Story of sacrifice, selflessness and love. Yes, if we teach such things our children and grand children, and we practice what we teach, yes in deed this world will be purified.
Thanks Paulo for sharing such a moral story with us.

This is the Love of soulmates.

The wise men say, you should learn to love yourself first to be able to share love with someone close. Follow your inner Love or Voice or Angel or Higher Self…or how ever you want to call it, in order to materialise this Love in the physical world.

And then we will be able to attract true Love, the Love of that person who is on the same wave length. Our Twin Flame…<3

Lots of work…:-))
