Learning to take care of oneself

by Paulo Coelho on November 26, 2010

- For years I have sought enlightenment – said the disciple. – I feel I am near it and want to know how to take the next step.

- A man who knows how to seek God knows also how to take care of himself. How do you support yourself? – asked the master.

- That is just a detail. I have rich parents who help me along my spiritual path. Because of that, I can dedicate myself entirely to sacred things.

- Very well – said the master. – I will explain to you the next step: look at the sun for half a minute.

The disciple obeyed.

When he had finished, the master asked him describe the landscape around him.

- I can’t. The sun’s brightness dazzled my eyes.

- A man who looks fixedly at the sun ends up blind. A man who only looks for Light, and shifts his responsibilities onto the shoulders of others, never finds what he is seeking – was the master’s comment.

Alegria (allegria in italian), is the blossom of Agape in our soul.
We simply can’t stop nore hide it.
It’s eternal.
Love.

Oh, very very true and beautifully put here. I am reading it with humble feeling for I too have been too depending towards my loved ones when pursuing my dreams.

It means, we shouldn’t be selfish in this life. We exist not just for ourselves. We exist and created for others too.

The Duties? It is necessary to do the way free, forget the family, father and mother, as this has done the Jesus. It is necessary to forget the mother and this word “mother”. The mother is spare.

Living with equilibrium between the spiritual and worldly aspects of life known as honoring both zahir and batin; din and duniya; inner and outer dimensions of life, which are ultimately ONE when living in Dharma–in and on purpose.

Yes, I think you said it. Dharma is one of the four purusharthas. Great Acharyas like Sri Sankara, Swami Vivekana had dwelt in detail on the real essence of Dharma.
