Different wells in your heart (Hafez)

by Paulo Coelho on December 31, 2010

There are different wells within your heart.
Some fill with each good rain,
Others are far too deep for that.

In one well
You have just a few precious cups of water,
That “love” is literally something of yourself,
It can grow as slow as a diamond
If it is lost.

Your love
Should never be offered to the mouth of a stranger,
Only to someone
Who has the valor and daring
To cut pieces of their soul off with a knife
Then weave them into a blanket to protect you.

Vengeance is sin. But sometimes, the feeling surpasses being mortal, close to even being tangible. Visceral and worldly thoughts are sane, though constantly fought by all within. Simplicity is complex, now. And fortitude is mostly left for such times, not genuine, but self-made, counterfeit, synthetic times of pain and endurance and guilt and revenge.

More often than not, we make believe that what is presented before us, covered and coated in subtle, pain-stakingly flimsy lies is the truth. Sadly enough, we know the truth. Our very internal pits are aware of it. We see it and we turn away, sometimes even pretend to see right through it. Therefore, we’re more than ever willing to accept the phony, pretentious lies drenched in all things fake.

Who or what is genuine represents all the fight in the world. And if we’re thoughtful enough to sit down and go over each little detail with total and utter depth, we might even find in ourselves to believe it. Karma, Salvation, Tantra, Superstitions, are all forms of partial sardonic pleasure seeking founders, who represented one or the other sides of life through the non-existing or non-seeable side. It is all and only the truth, and nothing but the truth, like my father once opined discussing the utilization of one’s existence.
This putative form of ‘skill’ is nothing more than just a hollow showcase of one’s thoughts carved in indelible ink on the forehead, mostly one that you don’t aspire to incorporate. It stays with you, like your shadow. And the only way to get rid of it is to show yourself the shining light of truth. Throw away the falseness of treason, the facade of being, and the bitterness of lies, like they were never a part of your naive soul. And hence, you may find yourself enveloped in the iridescent halo of life experiencing the joy of nature, the ingenuous form of love.

And you will note, surprisingly, you were closer to truth than you’d have ever imagined.

I believe offering it to a stranger not only helps fill their well, but opens your own wider, making room for the new rain you have yet to realize is falling.
