VERONIKA DECIDES TO DIE delicately etches this morose but ultimately uplifting story of the suicidal Veronika, who creeps along the boundary between life and death, sanity and madness, happiness and despair (Publisher’s Weekly)

I know i’m a little late for this post, so i guess i’m not expecting a reply, though i feel compelled to write. I loved Veronika as a character and am currently reading the book again. I thought her character was very complex and i could relate to some of problems she had. I gathered from the book that by Veronika having ‘an awareness of death’ she was made aware of life. I can understand the logic in it. But how can this principle be applied to a non-fictional person, without the drastic treatment Veronika experienced? I feel inspired by your book, but its that progression from intention to action. I generally feel like a failure in life where i breathe and my heart beats, though i’m not really living.

You probably know it by now but still I feel that I should let you know how amazing it is that just one sentence or phrase in your article clears the clutter in our mind and suddenly life looks & feels normal and manageable…

    keep sharing.

This is defiantly one of my favorite books, it shows recurring themes like all the other books of Mr. paulo but it is done is such a different way and the setting is really transfixing since it is very directly compared to our lives that it comes so much closer. I thought the points the book made was quite audacious but because it is so different it makes perfect sense for people like me who tried to find their answers within the safety line in their life. Thinking about it I think I should read this book again ha ha!

    1. Cida Oliveira says:

  5. I can relate to Zedka. LOL. ^_^ And to Veronika as well. ^_^ I really like Paulo Coelho’s Veronika Decided to Die. And by the way, I also enjoyed reading The Winner Stands Alone. I like the part where it says “What does being normal mean? 3. Spending years studying at university only to find at the end of it all that you’re unemployable.” I can relate to that a bit. LOL. ^_^ Paulo Coelho, I don’t know where you got all that genius. Just keep on writing and inspiring people like me. Dream On. ^_^

Beautiful character! In fact all the characters in the book were individually strong characters. I loved the ending.

Synchronicity: I was in Guildford talking to a guy in the Oxfam Bookshop about Paulo Coelho and Orhan Pamuk. He said one of his favourites was Veronika Decides to Die. Two days later Paulo Coelho posted Veronika on his blog as his Character of the Week!

Paulo loved your book Veronica…..each word and each thought projected in it just vibrates the truth of this seemingly confused society and social set up that we live in…..hard to understand why following the heard is the norm rather than carving out own path……dare in being different and oneself is what is most essential in living fully and freely….cheers to you for expressing it all in a daring manner out in open FINALLY…. love you Paulo.

    gracias.

Some people weak. Some people strong. There is NO WAY STRONG PERSON would do something what everybody else tell them to do. Some people naive and inmature for the rest of they life, ( i know some 40 years old naive idiots, man and women) Some people learn to be smarter with age…
As per Veronika. She has grown up and became stronger. It was TIME for her to grow up. There is the TIME for everyone to grow up.
    Thank You for your books.
