23/01/11: “are you happy with the movie?”

by Paulo Coelho on January 23, 2011

My conference today with Sean Parker (who was portrayed by Justin Timberlake in “The Social Network”). At a given moment, I ask Sean: “Did you like the movie?”

Caro Paulo,

http://tv.repubblica.it/spettacoli-e-cultura/il-vero-sean-parker-promuove-the-social-network-ma-e-solo-fiction/60595?video

Carmen

Paulo,

This is the one of the brightest young minds in Sweden talking about our souls and how we are programed by life, I read his book Nextopia and yours “The winner stands alone” besides with Dalai lamas book “Love” and it all came clear to me. He is one of the youngest professors in Sweden ever so not just his title speak for him but his brain and soul are beautiful like yours.

My dream would be people like you get together and brainstorm about life and future and leaders would listen to you..

With love,

Forgot his name so here it is, Micael Dahlén. His work is in english so everyone can understand.

Arto Hutto January 26, 2011 at 11:12 am

Paulo,

When you say that all writers wants to be read this comes up in mind as I have an childhood friend who is a principal educator and author and I wrote some words thinking about him:

Translated from Swedish.

“Give me a stage! Give me an audience who loves what I do! But most of all give me that someone who loves me for my dreams and for the person I truly am!”

With love,

i love the quote…its very impressive…but sadly, we might spend our lifetime without finding that person and fooling ourselves…and trying to put inadequate people in that place and again fooling ourselves…

Olta January 26, 2011 at 10:24 am

I enjoyed the conversation and seeing Paulo smile and laugh a lot. I missed that!
But every time I hear that: “I am never happy.” It seems so unbelievable to me. I mean when I heard that other times it seemed almost a lie to me, especially because I see that there is so much light in you Paulo, so so much light that you almost seem a baby. :)
I always thought that a person like you must be happy to be so, but I was wrong. But there is something that I know.
I’d dare to say that I feel that soon, but I am not sure of that, you will have reasons to no longer repeat that again.
You keep looking for other mountains to climb over and over and I have the impression that there is something so very next to you that you are missing, like it is always by your side but you are running too much and you aren’t paying attention.
Oh WTH! It is just my impression and I don’t know if it’s true but so I feel it.

I miss seeing that smile, live, and giving you a big big hug!
Much Love! :D <3

Dear Olta
Of course Paulo is happy, it is just that he has this idea about happiness that doesn’t match his way of being happy. He is happy fighting and he is never satisfied. He associates happiness with a boring Sunday afternoon and being satisfied. That’s why he claims not to be happy, but cheerful. In the end, our dear Paulo is happy in a way others don’t understand.
Love you, Olta.

Thank you. I really enjoyed this discussion between Sean Parker and Paulo Coelho. Especially if I compare it with these ghastly chat show programmes.

As a special thank you, some thoughts of my own with the full length discussion posted.

I just started my Facebook account in nov-2010 as I did not see the point of it. I saw it as a time consuming, commercial website.

Today I have found my use for it.

Find new friendships!
Find lost friendships!
Keep excisting friendships alive!

About the thing you talk about that people have to have next thing in mind I have a bright Facebook friend, Micael Dahlén who wrote the book Nextopia but I do not know if it is translatet into english yet. If it is or when it is do read it!

Caro Paulo,

Paulo Coelho is wrong when he says we will not have books in the future. Unless there is a complete collapse of civilisation there will always be books. Nothing beats curling up with a good book.

Platforms are not neutral. Facebook is not neutral. Google is not neutral.

Facebook is a social networking company, right? Google is a search company, right?

Wrong on both counts!

Both companies are information companies. They acquire information on you and they sell it. Google even trawls through the content of your e-mails to obtain information on you.

I do agree with you in general but the only thing we truly know is that we do not know the future so what future brings us is written in the stars=;O)

Arto Hutto

PS.

Perhaps we get a chip inplanted with all books ever written and updated with new ones for us to be able to close our eyes and dream us through all wisdom and beauty!?

Scar January 25, 2011 at 2:22 am

Couldn’t agreed more! I love paper books, even better if they are used. I especially like when others make notes/comments or dedications.

Thank You! I found that very interesting. I especially liked when one of the guests asked what the both of you found “magical” in technology, and you said being able to reach out to your audience through the internet and knowing that they can read “my soul!”

For me, reading yours and other authors’ blogs and facebooks updates, I enjoy, are like magic to me because they are daily doses of inspiration… which I assume are chosen by you for the moment. But these “daily does of inspiration” when received over the internet are a different experience than if I just picked up and read a book of quotes from you. The magic is present because the internet creates a bridge of communication that feels more like something in the present tense… if that makes any sense!

The duckling has another stream in which to find her brothers and sisters!

Thanks for sharing!

The movie is great. But I have a different, off-topic question. I am working on translating The Alchemist into Tigrinya, one of the ancient languages spoken in Eritrea and Ethiopia, East Africa. Any help with getting permission to translate and publish the book would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I think it is funny, as spoken about in the video about the present, that large companies such as Sony Music & Universal Music who tried to destroy companies such as Napster, Piratebay etc. are now on trial in the USA for ‘price fixing’ the cost of downloading music on the internet. I am very glad that people like Sean are developing large ‘free’ platforms and are improving many things online. For too long large gross companies have ruled the world, yes ruled the world!

Yes and it is also a good thing, because it allows us to discover more talent that is not being imposed on us.

Very nice, and two people I wouldn’t have expected to see speaking on the same platform. Sean makes a great point about romanticizing the past, the present is pretty spectacular if we stop to think about it.

As other’s have said, a very respectful and warm hearted discussion – I think we need more Brazilians on our tv screens!

I liked the … video; although I could not understand everything! I haven’t seen the movie! ;-)

You are right. I have so many ‘friends’ to talk with directly, in face book and twitter, but your Blog too, dearest Paulo Coelho! Of course the numbers of them are nothing compared to … yours! ;-) You are the .. number one! You have reached the souls of so many people, your readers; but not only reached them. You have ‘touched’ us, transformed us and taught us that ‘the UNIVERSE is .. conspiring with us ..

You and Christina, and me, and many in the .. ‘Sunday afternoon’ are still DREAMING. Because dreaming is what makes our next step possible. It gives us the strength and power to continue living.

Regarding HAPPINESS: my father had looked into my eyes when I was a teenager and told me; ‘you are never going to be happy because you are an .. ARTIST! (Well I am a .. housewife ‘artist-in-soul’). But I ‘know’. It is, I think, the power of the creative imagination that continues DESIRING for more … LIGHT!

Thank you for sharing this video. It is a happiness to see you and watch your ‘thoughts’.
LOVE,
Thelma xxx

Captivating interview. I enjoyed the movie, but was not surprised when Sean, today, mentioned it was quite fictional..as I was questioning throughout the movie how much of it truly portrayed reality. Paulo, your comment about happiness was inspiring. I feel that all too often, people are chasing this thing called happiness..only to be let down. Why not rather, seek challenges and joy. Thank you so much. You truly are an inspiration..and your blog brings new meaning to each new day for me. Sincerely, Hala

Hello mr. Coelho,
I am glad to see that you have embede the video i recorded featuring you and Sean Parker. But also i have a very interesting peace of intellectual work i want to share with with you and definitely you will appreciate but i need a mail to submit it to you. It is very precious and i didn’t want to use the form in your site. It is very concentrated, powerful and interesting with a lot of story behind it, you will assure yourself as soon as you see it, and i believe it is time to see the world (it was aging for a long time). Thank you for your time.
God bless you!

I forgot to mention that i am talking about a poetry, a very rare and a good one for which i need your kind assistance(after seeing it of course) to spread it (until now it remains unseen), but as you said it’s important for the writer to be heard by the readers :)
