A wise woman who was traveling in the mountains found a precious stone in a stream.
The next day she met another traveler who was hungry, and the wise woman opened her bag to share her food.
The hungry traveler saw the precious stone and asked the woman to give it to him.
She did so without hesitation.
The traveler left, rejoicing in his good fortune. He knew the stone was worth enough to give him security for a lifetime.
But, a few days later, he came back to return the stone to the wise woman.
“I’ve been thinking,” he said. “I know how valuable this stone is, but I give it back in the hope that you can give me something even more precious.
“Give me what you have within you that enabled you to give me this stone.”
story sent by David
“He estado pensando” dijo.

The traveler, it seems, is as hungry for wisdom as he is for food. The woman, it seems, is as generous as she is wise, but she is still evolving and her search for wisdom is not complete. The traveler returns to give her back the stone and to ask for something even more precious. The wise woman gives herself and the traveler a special gift…she enables him to search within himself for the wisdom that led him back to her and she is humble enough to ask him to share his answer.
amazing.
When the disciples walked amiste the stones, they had water beneath there feet. A Tree has roots beneath it’s trunk, why not decide too live like a tree. Because IT’S THE SAME STORY;
what this woman has is more pricious then the stone she has the wisdom and the conviction .

It would be better to say that the man is more wise than the woman, cause she shared her food with him without any hesitation, when he was hungry. Moreover she gave that precious stone to him without hesitation and without knowing his credential. This fact was realized by the man and came to know that the lady was above than the human being and she might have possessed the things which could transform the ordinary man to the upper level of the human being.Therefor he went back to that “saint lady” and he came to know that he was right to approach her for asking the more precious than the stone.
Paulo thanks a lot, for this lovely and wonderful story. This is a time to introspect ourselves to march forward in the direction of the “Truthfulness”.
with love and gratitude.
fantastic:)
This story has always kept me think a lot, as I don’t understand, since I don’t think it is a simple matter of generosity. hmmmmm…
This story ended like it should, but in reality I have another stoy….. I want to be like the wise woman, that is in my nature, but there was a man on facebook using this feature to get money…..and never intended to pay it back.Hope he will read your story mr Coelho ;-))I am an optimist and forgive him.

That story remember me of something I experience. once I found a beauty clear mountain – crystal in swiss alps. Many years later I meet in a hospital a girl who suffered of eating disorder . she was in such a bad shape! I gave the stone to her as a gift and told her it vil bring her recovery from her sickness. ……. a few months later I meet her in town and she gained wait and looked healthy………. hope she still have it…….thank U sharing this reminder with me LOVE&LIGHT rita :-)
During our journey we always travel towards the destiny just to find little happiness. Without realising that that the reason of that just remains within us. A child can be happy with car-toy and after attaining his adulthood he can be happy with real car or may seek more to get same level of happiness. When I was child by my looks ( I am still a child) I wanted to have a big rooms full of toys where I can play with toys as I did not have toys so I promised myself that when I would start earning I will do the same now I dont have that much time but have lot of toys and whenever I get time I play with my sons . I feel good gifting toys to chidren so I try to gift them some. The material things are not bad always as we need to be on a certain level of possession just to be stable and healthy but that level needs to be identified asap. The comforts help us to realise that the true happiness lies with not taking the things but giving. Unless and until we will not able to find out the level of comfort and start learning giving, we would not be happy and remain roaming here and there just to find little happiness.
lindo :)
thank god!that man was good enough to understand…most of us lack that kind of sensibility….thanks paulo…
very inspiring…hope to have that kind of heart!
Really a good one….the lady was wise n no doubt the man too…if one shows goodness to others, the others too get inclined towards this…rarely can find such stories now…
ME GUSTAN MUCHOS SUS LIBROS, HE TENIDO LA POSIBILIDAD EN ESTA VIDA DE LEER MAS DE 12,LO FELICITO,ES UD UN HOMBRE DE MUCHOS EXITOS Y MUCHA LUZ………….. Y ME HA HECHO REFLEXIONAR Y VER LA VIDA MAS LINDA DE LO QUE REALMENTE ES LA VIDA ES BELLA…….
ES UNA LASTIMA QUE MUCHAS PERSONAS QUIERAN TENER LAS PIEDRAS AGENAS…….Y NO DESCUBRIR EL BRILLO DE SU PROPIA PIEDRA
LA BELLEZA DE LA PIEDRA PRECIOSA ESTAN EN EL FONDO DE NUESTRO CORAZON……
“Give me what you have within you that enabled you to give me this stone.” I liked this phrases very much.. It shows that treasures which we have in ourselves are more valuable than the material world. Real love and happiness lies in giving something without expecting in return. Thanks Paulo for this wonderful story.
Actually,the stone is symbolic..
Then again it reminds us that there are something lot more than that, in life….
Nowadays, it’s very hard to find a kindhearted woman and good man like in this story…
so… “wise woman…” the story say nothing else, no description, no age wonderful! it can be me! jaja ahjaja lovely may the gift you give freely is a smile that will light up many more smiles! aloha
if you have peace you don’t need anything else… sometimes we have a very important leccion , like a man in this history, we need to pay attention for learnig by wise persons arround us
Wow, simplemente maravilloso. ;)
Wow, that’s without doubt my bedtime story for tonight:)
Thank you Mr.Coelho
Good night
Love always
ES LA BASE DE LA MATEMATICA + – x % SUMA LO BUENO,RESTA LO NEGATIVO,MULTIPLICA LO QUE TIENES Y DIVIDE LO TENGAS!…
love it ,if i live with someone like that i would call me i paradise
Es realmente muy bonito
very wise. real treasures are not of the material things but on the virtues we have learned in life.
i agree.
I very well agree with this… but most of the times we forget to apply this in life. Hats off to Paulo who keeps reminding us about these invaluable virtues and thanks to you who has put these realizations in proper words.

The stone is symbolic.
Our happiness doesn’t depend on how much we’re focused on ourselves but in how much we can give to someone else…. our energy, our time, our help. Only when we start to give unconditionally without expecting anything in return, we will feel the real love and happiness.
What came to my mind as i read this story was:
The most important point for me here was, that even though his intention wasn’t for the sake of making the women feel good, he was doing something good, by provocing “something”. even though i think most people would say, that the intention behind the traveler was weird, the response by the women was even more crazy. and i love it.
it was not about right or wrong. it was about something bigger than these two people. “something” communication through them.
thank you for sharing :)
An incredibly beautiful story. I read it in February and thought about it. She has so many facets and possibilities within himself, it’s unbelievable. I do not think it goes to the share. The man has not been awarded a half stone. No, it’s about something deeper. Most people would say the man is stupid. It may be, perhaps he expects even greater abundance of money. Where the stone was found? There may be several more. Maybe he’s just greedy. I do not know. Or is he looking for something you can not buy with money. The love. Because that does the woman. She loves. I do not know. The woman knows that all she does to good, come back. I believe in the good in people, I think he has recognized something. There are more important things than money. Many find this setting probably naive. I’m concerned. But there are more important than money, I hope the man finds it. But actually, I confess. I do not know which one is true. I only know what I like.
I wish you a wonderful evening
Beautiful, life is to share <3
inspiring..
Thank you..valuable :)
THIS STORY IS FROM ISLAMIC HISTORY.
Amazing what valuable truths I have discovered from Islamic history over the past months! Why is it so hidden from the rest of the world?
Simply Amazing ♥
That man too was wise! as he was blessed with the ability to ‘think again’! Otherwise you will never see him return; and the story would have been different; as we see many examples in our times!!
