Q&A: Transformation

Many times we need to compare things, situations and people in order to decide what is best for us. Do you consider that in most cases this is a positive attitude? (Mara Adriana)

It all depends on the context: if we make a decision that is based solely on what other people tell us, we may be straying from what we truly desire and want. But if we are able to listen to our souls – keeping of course a channel open to others – then we are able to grow and walk in the direction of our dreams.

I have just finished reading the Witch of Portobello. What is the one thing that I must remember during this time which is full of doubts and fears but at the same time curiosity and excitement? (by Sarah)

You should always bear in mind the goal of this transformation, without shutting away the process. It’s actually in this very moment that you can grasp the wider meaning of your life.

I had this realization while doing the pilgrimage to Saint James. I was, in the beginning obsessed with my sword and so wanted to get straight to the end of the journey. It was actually by living the journey in all its aspects that I was finally able to find my sword. Both elements then must be present in your spirit in this time of change.

What is fear? (by Benedict)

Contrary to what we believe, fear does not arise because we feel utterly alone. If we were totally alone there wouldn’t be anything to fear.

Actually fear comes from the fact that we imagine there are forces ready to attack us, things that escape from our power to understand.

Our fear arises from what we can’t grasp. What we don’t understand is actually what fills us with dread.
The moment we realize that things that go beyond our knowledge are not harmful, then the object of fear disappears.

LA TRANSFORMACIÓN DE NUESTRA VIDA DEPENDE UNICAMENTE DE NOSOTROS, NADIE NOS PUEDE AYUDAR CUANDO NUESTRA CABEZA SE LLENA DE TELARAÑAS DE MIEDOS, A LO QUE EN MUCHOS CASOS NO ESTA PASANDO Y QUISAS NUNACA PASE.
A DIFERENCIA DE LA TEORIA DE DARWIN, EN QUE LAS ESPECIES EVOLUCIONA APARTIR DE LA NESECIDAD DE ADAPTARSE A SU MEDIO, CREO QUE LOS HOMBRE ADAPTAN SU MEDIO A SU DESEO DE EVOLUCION, ASI HAY QUIEN DECIDE INVOLUCIONAR Y SE TRANFORMA EN ESO (PERDON POR LA EXPRECIÓN) QUE MATA, HIERE, SECUESTRA Y CAUSA TANTO DOLOR A QUIEN NI SIQUIERA CONOSE, TRANSFORMANDO SU MEDIO TODO A SU ALREDEDOR PARA JUSTIFICAR SUS ACTOS Y SUS COVARDIA.
DEL MISMO MODO HAY PERSONAN QUE SE TRANFORMAN CUAL ORUGAS EN BELLAS MARIPOSAS Y VAN POR LA VIDA HACIENDO FELIZ AL MUNDO TAN SOLO CON SU PRESENCIA Y DEL MISMO MODO EL MUNDO SE ADAPTA A ELLOS.
SOLO NOS QUEDA DECIDIR QUE TRANSFORMAREMOS Y HACIA DONDE EVOLUCIONAREMOS, NADA ES SENCILLO Y TODO TIENE UN PRECIO (EN EL MEJOR DE LOS CASOS), SOLO RESTA DECIR LAS PALABRAS MAJICAS “YO SOY” LO QUE QUIERA SER. ENTONCES TODO A NUSTRO ALREDEDOR ENCONTRARA EL CAMINO PARA NOSOTROS

Mr. Paulo Coelho,First, I’d like to say I have the utmost respect for who you are and what you believe in…Please show me how a person has been absolutely miserable and want to change her whole life to what I really want and need…I’ve suffered somany heartaches from my children and people in my life. I feel like I have been through the rinse cycle once to many times…Although I Love my children dearly they aren’t very kind or respectful of me and I’m so saddened by this…But I also know it’s time to change, a complete turn around from the past and from the present…Please share any wisdom you have while I’m preparing for this journey into my new life?

Living in fear is not living. I have had to overcome a lot of fear in the past year. I prayed to God “Keep me safe and keep me strong” and it worked. When I saw a psychic she said the archangel Michael was in my home! (“Calling upon angels for home or personal protection is simple and easy to do. Archangel Michael’s purpose is to protect the Earth from lower energies. You can think or say, “Archangel Michael, please come live with me and my loved ones. Protect us, our homes, vehicles, and valuables so that no harm may pass by your loving alertness. Thank you.”

Angels and archangels are of the spiritual realm and can be in more than one place at once so asking him to help your friends and family is appropriate.”)

  14. Hi Paulo,

How you explain your pilgrimage is spot-on; when we detach from outcomes and stop focusing on any result, we become present. When fully present, all things fall into place and the ends we desire manifest with effortlessness.

    Thanks for sharing!

      these are working for me..
      – you must pursue your dreams.. [no regrets!if you don’t at least try to do that which makes you happy and feel fulfilled in life deeply.. then really, the future horizon is always going to seem bleak. maybe you will try something and realise it no longer suits your life as it is Now.. but at least try.. no.. DO!]
      – gardening for health! [outdoors and green fingers..i help coordinate a project just so named G4H!]
      – animals, wildlife.. [my cat adopted me.. yet thanks me everyday and lights up my way]
      – music.. [i started two new instruments, because i used to play the piano growing up].
      – be with people who KNOW you and then you know you are truelly loved for just being.. then you can worry about all the worries and still feel connected.
      – eat healthily.. diet is important.. as is exercise.
[ i know these sound like basic A B C instructions, but honestly.. the last is probably the most important for daily practice. eat superfoods and indulge in all the goodness of nature’s bounty.. because food can heal ;o]

    About fear…

I am maybe a very young and naive woman, but fear mostly motivates me. I have many dreams and love to travel. I have been around Africa by myself, and it has not pleased my surroundings. Fear told them that I should stay at home, and not just go with a stranger home.

I was afraid to travel and my future dreams about working and helping in east Africa is not the safe choise. But I have found my path. It is about beeing happy, and this feels so right to me. I am not brave at all. Fear is with me, but it does not take control of me. My thought is, that if you have God on your side, everything is going to be okay. God helps me to trust people that can be trusted and to challenge mig self so I can develop. But another thought could be, that fear is a warning sign and stop you from doing something stupid.

It is hard for me to drawn the line. When is fear good and when is it bad? Should fear stop you from time to time?

    1. Daniel says:

Hello Malena! Maybe fear is neither good or bad. It’s an emotion that is part of being human. How we respond to our fear is a choice, and maybe this is why you find it a useful motivator: you are making “good” choices!

      With love, Daniel

    2. Irena says:

Malena! You are brave and curious!
Actually i am also going to travel on my own around morocco! i have been told hundred of times that this is not safe for a woman. and i think exactly like you that if i trust people and god will send me people that deserve my trust. but we never know whether god is on our side or not.
now when i started planning my trip i also found some fear. but i think it is not the kind of ‘really scary fear’ but sort of fear of the unknown.

and ‘really scary fear’ definately stops you from doing something. i think it is more about feeling coming from inside.

    3. Catherine E. A. says:

yes i agree with daniel.. perhaps fear is something that prompts you to wake up and pay attention with acute detail… something is coming that will either feed your soul, or leave you feeling hungry.
i don’t know. but fear is a natural instinct to the unknown and unexpected..

this has just made me think of the scene in the film australia, when that darling little boy is on a cliff edge and being confronted by a herd of cattle..
he conquers his fear.. but the movie needs to be seen to experience the message of that moment.

fear can make you react and act.
      fight or fright.

it’s strange then about studies showing people’s reaction to panic situations..

obviously.. we all fear.. but it is about how we react in the moments after… do we think and act; panic and become paralysed in fear ; or ..?

I remember also that after 9/11 I thought that perhaps i should never travel again but then this would affect my dreams to work in international development. Yet also, something said, that I was better than the fear that was supposed to take hold of me and paralyse me.. ie: we can overcome if we try.

    4. Ciro says:

I can tell you something about the fear! It can ruin all your life. I had my dreams, look a like yours – to go to Africa in order to help people. But the others opinions, my own fear push me to another side… I am still in the same town as I was 10 years ago, and nothing changed at all. I still have a dream. And I am aware that I can not do it. Maybe I am not capable enough, maybe becose of my fear.. All I know is that I did not choose the rigt way, the way which could bring me hapiness and self satisfaction…

    5. Betsy Stevens says:

Ciro, couldn’t you change now, now that you see that…I think we can change anytime we want, but we have to want it…I’m going through a huge change, like starting my life over at age 52…I am unhappy so, I need to do what will make me smile, feel good, feel whole and enjoy my life…I hope you find that kind of happiness, just look harder…

    6. Catherine E. A. says:

      Ciro.
A very practical reply to you, because this is sometimes the easiest way to view a ‘fear’ and move forward..

      Going to Africa.

This IS a dream worth pursuing. Africa is an amazing continent.. it can change your life – ie: “broadens one’s horizons” [as I remember putting on my university deferment form as to why I wished to travel after school].
I was 18 then, but returned to Africa at age 28-32
and the way to go about it has not changed a single bit.
      You need
      a) a budget [you’ll need to think about travel expenses [international and in the country you visit], medical costs [as at doctors], costs for food allowance and extras.
      b) a valid passport.
      c) a desire to help and learn.

      next you will need
      d) a google search: of charities, NGOs or CSOs in Africa who you can email and send them a cover letter with CV asking to volunteer. Do some good forward research about the organisation and make sure it has good reviews and an effective management and volunteer programme.
      e) next you need some confidence: make sure you apply only to a place who can set you up with a place to stay, maybe they even pay volunteer expenses – they do !! Don’t expect to pay for the experience, as you are also there to help.. some charities like Frontier ask for a fee. Nah!
      f) lastly, you’ll need to allow plenty of time to plan and organise, so take time and don’t panic or rush!

      then Go!
even if for four-6 months, this time will fly by.

so start looking, and if you need to ask anything more I’ll happily try and help answer ;o]

i really hope you can take time out of your current life and make the trip of YOUR lifetime.

      best wishes

I dont live life because of my fears.

  33. Peter Wright says:

I think perhaps fear is the thought that something may cause us pain, or worse cause pain to someone we love. I think too that it is in large part bound up in ego and self. Once we have learned how, and are able to overcome our own ego and act selflessly, submitting to some large degree to God’s will or fate dissolves fear and renders it meaningless.

    But what do I know?

  34. Carmen Tesi says:

we oriental women raised to have fear that is why 90% of us have fear without any reasonable reason cause many of our parents think that fear is the best way for us not to make mistakes and about men who propose us many many bad experiences in marriages within family or friends make us think:y me who will have a good man?

  36. DiegoMon18 says:

I like the part about fear. But how do you get rid of something that causes it and resides within you?

    1. mina says:

Hi paulo I think my fear is because of my whole life in the past because of my wrong culture and wrong roles in my country (Iran)that I live.

      Dear Mia

Your awnser lies withing your question…by realizing that you alone are the source from which all originates…realizing there is no-‘thing’ outside of your thinking matrix unless, by choice and then starving that choice by feeding the ‘new”thing’ which you do want to have featuring in your life… and realizing the consequence of not doing it.

Sometimes change is there right in front of us but we either refuse or ignore it. Something like the alchemist. The treasure is there, for us to take, but we feel so overwhelmed at the changes that this treasure might bring that we are afraid to touch it. I am not talking about jewels or gold. I am talking about the treasures that lie deep inside us. The treasures that make us soar to the heavens without leaving the ground. Some may call it God or Buddha some might call it Chakras or Reiki. I call it our endless, intimate soul. Our inner light that when it shines through, it can outshine even the most intense sun light. The question is… in this life of constant stress and uncertainty. In this life of wars and brutality, how can we make this light shine so that it drowns out the darkness that surrounds us?
