According to the dictionary: s.f., from the Latin Invidia. Mixture of pain and anger; feeling of displeasure about the prosperity and happiness of someone else; desire to have what others have.
In a Jewish parable: A disciple asks the rabbis about the passage in Genesis:
“The Lord was pleased about Abel and his offer, whereas he was not pleased about Cain and his offer. Cain was exceedingly angry and his face fell. Then the Lord said to him: Why are you angry and why did your face fall?”
The rabbis answered:
“God should have asked Cain: Why are you angry? Was it because I did not accept your offering, or because I accepted the offering of your brother?”
Envy and ethics: For the scientist and researcher Dr. William M. Shelton, envy is a reaction provoked by losers, who seek to evade reality by hiding behind a crusade seeking to reinstate “moral values”, “noble ideas”, and “social justice”.
The situation becomes dangerous when the school system begins to develop in the student the conditioning for despising all those who manage to be successful, always attributing any success to corruption, manipulation and moral degradation.
As the pursuit of success is something inherent to the human condition, the students end up in a schizophrenic process of hating exactly that which would lead them to happiness, thereby increasing the anxiety crises, and reducing the capacity to innovate and improve society.
Satan and the demons: The demons came to complain to the Prince of Darkness. For two years they had tempted a certain monk who lives in the desert.
“We have offered him money, women, all we have in our repertoire, and nothing worked.”
- You don’t know how to do it properly – replied Satan. – Come and see how you should act in a case of this sort.
They all flew to the cavern where the holy monk lived. There, Satan whispered in his ear:
- Your friend Maccarius has just been promoted to Bishop of Alexandria.
Immediately the man blasphemed against the heavens, and lost his soul.

envy.. is a feeling that surrounds everybody at least once. that gave out the monk and demons their way. the destroyer and weapon of the evils. an act of shame it is. it brings in darkness and mists our minds and we loose power to see and think.
I don’t understand, what my comment with this,I really don’t have an idea….what should I say that…not to depend my self.Of course, sometimes you have that feelings envy to others…but for me,I’t was never a problem, I could always find myself and being content what I had…maybe I’m talking other things or something else…And to be honestly I come from very poverty family and some of my sister and brother they have a very diffecult to adjust them selves, in that way I saw myself very different for them and that’s what I’m trying to teach them…my mother too…can you imagined that, supposed to be my older sister and brother learned me to a better person and my mother too, but unfortunately I learned it my self…sinds my father died I feel like a big responsibility for my family, maybe because I saw my father, how he was suffered during his sickness until he died ….so I was always very seriuos in my life…never interested for something of my future and I should fight more what my dream was…but never the less I have a bitter life, besides my other sufferings , but because all those difficult time ….teach me a bitter person. And I thank God with that….
…………..es muy duro que te quieran hundir solo por la cochina envidia …………pero mas duro es verlos destruidos a estos mismos por envidia……………y mientras unos se llenan los bolsillos, otros destrullen vidas…….etc……un abrazo.
True liberation of soul can be reached when envy is finally discarded . It is like getting rid of a very dark , clinging cloak that keeps pulling you down with every good and happy balloon that is around you . Every buoyant happy moment experienced outside of you is instantly seen as a severe loss to your own soul! It is so very liberating when we reach a space of pure joy and unconditional happiness for a fellow being who may be experiencing luck, love , success or any other fabulous experiences! YES ! I am happy for you my fellow friend !! I wish you more of what you have xxx
agree…envy is like a termite…it slowly destroy you.
