Sri Ramakrisna tells the story of a man who was about to cross a river, when master Bibhishana came over, wrote a name on a leaf, tied it to the man’s back, and said:
- Don’t be afraid. Your faith will help you walk on the waters. But the minute you lose faith, you will drown.
The man trusted Bibhishana, and began to walk on the waters, without any difficulty. At a certain point, he had an overwhelming desire to know what his master had written on the leaf tied to his back.
He took it and read what was written:
“Oh god Rama, help this man to cross the river.”
“Is that all?” thought the man. “And who is this god Rama, anyway?”
The moment this doubt became lodged in his mind, he was submerged and drowned in the strong current.

…but the man didn’t lose faith….when he really never heard of lord Rama then the question was obvious.
Why was he drowned?
He lost faith, because he was walking on water because of Rama and when he asked himself about who rama is, he stumbled of he’s existence….so he drowned. even if he didn’t know about him he would have to belive anyway
May i ask. how does this differ from blind faith?
very true!!
i have heard of this story before as well.
one should not at any case doubt their masters, well wishers and helpers.
It seems that i drowned myself. It’s so ironic how dreams can break in one moment…
I wonder how these rubish still sells in 21st century !!!
…………….bueno bueno……..
como se puede ser tan animalito, como para confiar mas en las palabras ajenas que en las de tu propio corazón………..un abrazo.
very true…….infect we all have these strengths by birth but the thing is we couldn’t find a way to prepare us to follow that…..perhaps there is a need of self realization…..which everyone has to find it own self and that is a only evaluation per-forma we have to fill….to prove our-self…..!
