20 SEC READING: The older sister’s question

by Paulo Coelho on April 6, 2011

When her brother was born, Sa-chi Gabriel begged her parents to leave her alone with the baby.

They refused, fearing that, as with many four-year-olds, she was jealous and wanted to mistreat him.

But Sa-chi showed no signs of jealousy.
And since she was always extremely affectionate towards her little brother, her parents decided to carry out an experiment.

They left Sa-chi alone with their new-born baby, but kept the bedroom door ajar so that they could watch what she did.

Delighted to have her wish granted, little Sa-chi tiptoed over to the cradle, leaned over the baby and said:

“Little brother, tell me what God is like. I’m beginning to forget.”

For many years I have been an RN to newborns. I believe the reason newborns cannot talk is because they can tell us where they’ve been.

the big tail in the picture looks like the tail of a sperm. the big planet with the swirls reminds me of a placenta. there is a little hand of …. a fetus.
how must a baby feel/experience her/his universe of about 9 months – the uterus?

what is actually our universe?

So true and happy this discussion began. I worked with a 4 year old sister of her baby brother, and she would tell long stories about her relationships with her mother and brother before they “got born again”, as she often said. She also said, last time, her mother was her grandmother’s mother very clearly and made connections to other relatives in different roles than they are this time. I only worked with her for two years, and this kind of talk virtually stopped when I mentioned it to her therapist, who was my co-worker :( So, Thanks Paulo.

It really gets you thinking…
There is nothing like childhood innocence and dreams. We should never forget all good things in this life, and we should never become evil and pessimistic people. Short and sweet, thank you Paulo for your ever inspiring words!

so deep and shocking… we begin with knowing God, loos the track by time, the cycle ends most probably as it has began.

When my daughter was 2 1/2 or 3 years old, she said one night as I was tucking her in her little bed: “I’m happy I picked you Mom” – I asked:”What do you mean?” – She answered: “I was in another beautiful place and God said, it is time for you to go back, so I chose you!!!”

Nayvety is a God’s gift, when we grow up,we must preserve it in our heart,so that we can discover new worlds and new horizons, every day it’ll be a new day.Child’s eyes are world’s soul, because they can see what we can’t see, they are potential core of the world, a whole universe that’ll became.

Precious, thankyou Paulo and Ken.
Can visualize, while reading the story, even the little chat.

And this week, my grand daughter who is not yet 2, became a very happy big sister. Easily welcoming the newborn baby into her heart.

Supervise, and respond to what really happens. Because sometimes we interfere prematurely, out of fear.

Love to All,
Jane

what does it mean?

what a simple approach to tell that, at what age a human being /child is approaching towards earthly/world affairs and forgetting his/her association with God.
Thanks a lot.
