10 SEC READING: Chocolate

by Paulo Coelho on May 17, 2011

Two boys used to go to school together.

One of them had a bad habit of stealing the chocolates from his friend’s bag.

One day he felt guilty about what he was doing… So he wrote a letter as he didn’t have the courage to confess directly.
“I have been stealing your chocolates… I’m sorry for that…’

The other friend smiled reading it, and sent a letter back:

“Don’t worry. I know about it… That’s why I keep chocolates in the same place in my bag…’

Very special! I think the boy who took the chocolate, his tempation took the best of him and was too shy to ask. I think the provider knew that and he wanted him to have the cholate and was just waiting for his friend to confess because he knew his friend had a good heart <3

The chocolate provider might be having a different idea behind keeping his friend pleased! This friend could be stronger or more intelligent than him and so to keep him tagged with him makes sense for him!

Compassionate and forgiving friend…I thought I have nothing more to give and felt I’m already depleted…but when you see children that are in need…somehow, you have this courage to give without expecting anything in return.

its hard to call this sweet, poignant etc coz at the moment I am replacing the word chocolate with the word love… and it just doesn’t add up to poignant, sweet etc unrequited love is painful.draining.r human beings really capable of unconditional love(eros)?? i can understand fraternal, filial n agape love being unconditional but eros??

This wonderful short story portrays that there is more to the world than meets the eye. Relationships are not black and white and neither are our deeds. In a world of black and white, stealing is a crime time and time again. “I steal and therefore I am bad”. But in the example of the story, the deed of stealing enabled the boy whose chocolates were stolen to act with love and compassion and by this example, the stealer was able to learn the meaning of love and compassion. We act on how we perceive and how we act, bestows a choice upon others, who can choose to be like us or the opposite of us. But the choice to think and act differently is always there.

Such a good friend…I love chocolate. I heard the saying that everything that is forbidden has a better taste…Stealing was a trasgession, thats why maybe chocolate tasted better. I think a piece of sweet is ok, the sin would be some serious stuff, and unfortunately I met people who did such even if I offered them lot of free things. And is the case of close relatives.

When we share the surplus that we have with others, it not only prevents theft but also keeps the abundance of the universe circulating within and around us!!!

QUIEN ROBA UN CHOCOLATE ES CAPAZ DE LLEGAR A ROBAR UNA PASTELERIA. asi que el amigo debe ensenarle a pedir y no a seguir robando.

Many grandmothers do the same thing, they set out the cookie jar a place with easy access, for the children to be able to help themselves, when strict parents prohibit sweets.

We should praise great deeds of love, sharing and compassion..
but the behavior of stealing should be reminded of, and dissuade…
