I came across a blog that listed Gandhi’s Top 10 Fundamentals for Changing the World.
1. Change
“You must be the change you want to see in the world.”
“As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world – that is the myth of the atomic age – as in being able to remake ourselves.”
2. Control.
“Nobody can hurt me without my permission.”
3. Forgiveness
“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.”
“An eye for eye only ends up making the whole world blind.”
4. Action.
“An ounce of practice is worth more than tons of preaching.”
5. The present moment.
“I do not want to foresee the future. I am concerned with taking care of the present. God has given me no control over the moment following.”
6. Everyone is human.
“I claim to be a simple individual liable to err like any other fellow mortal. I own, however, that I have humility enough to confess my errors and to retrace my steps.”
“It is unwise to be too sure of one’s own wisdom. It is healthy to be reminded that the strongest might weaken and the wisest might err.”
7. Persist.
“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”
8. Goodness.
“I look only to the good qualities of men. Not being faultless myself, I won’t presume to probe into the faults of others.”
“I suppose leadership at one time meant muscles; but today it means getting along with people.”
9. Truth
“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”
“Always aim at complete harmony of thought and word and deed. Always aim at purifying your thoughts and everything will be well.”
10. Development.
“Constant development is the law of life, and a man who always tries to maintain his dogmas in order to appear consistent drives himself into a false position.”

My favorites:
“As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world – that is the myth of the atomic age – as in being able to remake ourselves.”
“An ounce of practice is worth more than tons of preaching.”
It really comes down to recognizing that change starts with you first, and then taking action!
I would like to say only that if Gandhi had lived 2000 years ago, he would be proclaimed to be a God!
Definitivamente un gran sabio.
Ганди определено е бил велик.
This world, this globe, our common planet- now – so much needs another Gandhi. I so much feel we are at the crossroads. Will we choose EGO or LOVE?
See Tina,
The term EGO, normally sounds negative, but its the common attribute every body possess.Expecting good always is a sign of negative personality. Its we the people who has the capability to bring out the change for whatever may be the cause,if we seriously focus on what we exactly want.If every where peace, love and harmony is there then the system(world) will not be balanced.Since the inception of human life there were goods and evils.Gandhi has shown us the vision to lead, its we the people who needs to act.Don’t forget Gandhi was also a mere human being,,its the way we project ourselves brings out the change inside and it reflects outside, and if what ever you do and whatever you say has some sense every body will listen to you.
Listen to your heart what it says without being biased, accordingly you proceed.
I can’t hear anything over the sound of how aewomse this article is.
“We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is
the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do.”
–from “The Collected Works of M.K.Gandhi”
if you want a true friend, become one. and smile!
Nice quotes. The great leader of Subcontinent.
LOS CAMBIOS SIEMPRE SON DIFICILES DE REALIZAR Y ESTOS LLEGAN EN EL MOMENTO ADECUADO DE NUESTRA VIDA SOLO TENEMOS QUE ESTAR ATENTOS A ELLOS Y DISPUESTA A REALIZARLOS EL NO CONCRETARLOS SIGNIFICA UN NO EN EL CRECIMIENTO ,EN QUE NUESTRA VACIJA SE VUELVA A LLENAR DE NUEVOS CONOCIMIENTOS ,DE PERDON ,BONDAD ,VERDAD Y AMOR
I come from India, Gandhiji’s homeland. I am proud about our Father of the Nation. And today, I feel proud that his preaching are being considered and publicized the world over.
Very inspiring quotes, I love the simplicity of them all. But I do need to share that one specific quote reminded me of my parents. It describes how every single disagreement with them goes – in regards to which country I should live in, my work, etc. It’s the following:
“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”
:D
A truly humble and wise man
I not a big fan of M.K.Gandhi , but reading the ten beautiful quotes , feels like I should give another chance to learn more about him .
I like the change quotes best although many of them resonate.
I sign a couple of my email accounts with “You must be the change….as part of the signature. Great Post.
I would choose nr 1 because change will only occur if mankind will change themself. people always say, what change will it make if I take the bus instead of the car. Well i think it will change a whole lot, because once one person change the ripple effec will make change other people.
Its brilliant. Gandhi ji was a man of great vision. I realy admire his teaching. However, the one I believe in most has not been included in the above ten points. Paulo sir, please take note and add it .
“RIGHT MEANS ALWAYS LEAD TO RIGHT ENDS.”
if this one point is practised by all and sundry, the world will be better place.
Number 4 is defenitely in need, we understand everything intellecutally, but are uncapable of experimenting what we preach due to lazynes so:
4. Action.
“An ounce of practice is worth more than tons of preaching.”
Gandhi is an ever relevant figure who can never be forgotten in the annals of History.
Thank you for posting Gandhi’s top 10. Words and and example of outstanding wisdom.
These need to be practiced and taught today…
@Sinraasu Ambedkardaasan- i would like to mention it to you that you have printed only part of the article which does not truly reflect Gandhiji’s thought process….the above article you posted is absolutely right except that it is preceded by the following lines-
“I gave support to caste because it stands for restraint. But at present caste does not mean restraint, it means limitations. Restraint is glorious and helps to achieve freedom. But limitation is like chain. It binds. There is nothing commendable in castes as they exist to-day. They are contrary to the tenets of the Shastras. The number of castes is infinite and there is a bar against intermarriage. This is not a condition of elevation. It is a state of fall/font.”
So you see that gandhiji had a ideal vision in mind regarding caste system. But the scenario that he observed proved the obsoleting nature of caste system existent at that time.So he was actually against the caste system at that time.Anyways, you will be intrested to know that even ‘Dowry’ in India had a symbolic and a legitimate logic behind it when it was introduced. But all the essence in it withered away just like it did in caste system………
tanta sabidurìa y èl preferìa que no le reconociesen como Mahathma, felicidades y gracias Gandhi
Practicaly he was a true follower of islamic values. Simplicity is one of the main fundamentals in islam. Our beloved prophet (pbuh) and his caliphs used to lead a simple life. Even ghandhiji has stated once that he loves the simplicity of islam.
