I can relate that poem with the school creativity. How travelling broadens your mind and gives you the opportunity to learn about other countries their cultures, their languages – something Cavafy did splendidly –
Many thanks for everything.
Beautifly done! Thank you for sharing with us.
My dearest Paulo,
Thank you very much for sharing .Thank you Paulo that you introduce to your readers the real quality of Greece especially these difficulties days that everyone knows Greece in a bad reality.
Much respect and love,
..find many perfumes…
Thank you very much!We with my students had a perfect lesson learning not only prononciation, but also a piece of literature that touches a soul!
I came to know this poem on this blog. but I begin now to better understand my longing for traveling the Greece islands. it was a longing to do & understand Ulysses journey, started almost 50 years ago, & no symbolic meaning included.
& when I did the trips finally, the special feeling of this space that you could find there, the intensity of the sun & the blue of the ocean, & the little communities settled on small islands.
2 years ago, when I had the feeling that I lost everything, I hassled with fear of just doing one little step towards my “dream”, I had a dream, in which a man told me that he was in Greece & persistently asked me ” & you do know Greece, do you?” I marveled so long about this sentence & the feelings it initiated in me.
so much beauty in the unconscious :o) so much wisdom buried in the mind & heart <3
“Laistrygonians and Cyclops,
“wild Poseidon-you won’t encounter them
unless you bring them along inside your soul,
unless your soul sets them up in front of you”
The ONLY truth is INSIDE us. There is nothing outside. The only journey we have to do is in our mind, in our heard.
We put the stones…we smell the flowers…

Much love to all
Thank you for ‘Ithaca, Sean Connery and Vangelis,
Love knowing the riches we have are what we acquire on our journeys..we don’t need any bags or boxes to carry them..we have them on view and are part of us in all that we do.
Greece remains one incredible place of light and life… we should not forget this.

“The Greeks by the logos they were singing and by the singing they were talking.”About the evolution of the Greek language, music, culture and DEMOCRACY, which was born in Athens. Greece, with the unending BLUE skies and sea, is the most beautiful place on Earth. Full of LIGHT and LOVE.

Wonderful, invoking me to depart a journey to Ithaca!
Or I might have already been in such a journey.
this combination is just perfect – thank you for finding and sharing. i so much love this poem
Ah, Ithaca…the land from which Odysseus set out upon his fabled journeys. Aside from being one of the most breathtaking videos I’ve ever seen, it reminds me also of another famous island, Avalon, of which it it is said:
“For, as I say, the world itself has changed. There was a time when a traveler; if he had the will and knew only a few of the secrets, could send his barge out into the Summer Sea and arrive not at Glastonbury of the monks, but at the Holy Isle of Avalon; for at that time the gates between the worlds drifted within the mists, and were open, one to another, as the traveller thought and willed. For this is the great secret, which was know to all educated men in our day: that by what men think, we create the world around us, daily new.” (–“The Mists of Avalon” by Marion Zimmer Bradley)
Well, I happen to believe that the world has not changed that much (though perhaps we humans have)–those gates that drifted within the mists are still there, still open to those who dare traverse the wild unknown that lies between and separates two worlds.
Thank you, Paulo, for this splendid rendition of The Journey.
This is how it made me feel…inside:
Thankyou – that was so the best ..not only one of the best poems wrote about the journey ,but the voice of Sean Connery ..hmm’
Thankyou Paulo -nice start to the day :-)
Precioso video, precioso poema y Vangelis me trae muchos recuerdos.
It’s help me to explore my meditation. Thank you.
Such beautiful words, manifesting the value of the journey…
“Keep Ithaka always in your mind.
Arriving there is what you’re destined for.
But don’t hurry the journey at all.
Better if it lasts for years”
Lovely, thank you once again Paulo for “giving” your heart and sharing your love with others. I like poems, maybe because I am also a Virgo…
An excellent translation. Of course the music of the Greek language is what makes the poetry of C.Kavafis perfect. He has written so many beautiful poems.Thank you, Paulo Coelho for introducing to your readers this piece of ..greek art.
