Promo Bay

by Paulo Coelho on January 28, 2012

The Pirate Bay starts today a new and interesting system to promote arts
Do you have a band? Are you an aspiring movie producer? A comedian? A cartoon artist?
They will replace the front page logo with a link to your work.
As soon as I learned about it, I decided to participate. Several of my books are there, and as I said in a previous post, My thoughts on SOPA, the physical sales of my books are growing since my readers post them in P2P sites.
Welcome to download my books for free and, if you enjoy them, buy a hard copy – the way we have to tell to the industry that greed leads to nowhere.
Love

Hi Paulo, thanks for your generous position.

My question: your statement is being used in many blogs to justify putting other authors works available to be downloaded in internet. Don´t you think that if an author doesn´t want this to happen, although you may think he/she is wrong,, his/her choosing should be respected?

Many thanks.

Mr. Coelho,

Hopefully you will read this 200th and something comment.

We are a group of people that promote free and legal content online since 2005. We heard a long time ago of what happened to your novels when they were translated to russian and shared on bittorrent years ago and what your reaction was to this.

Now that TPB is promoting you, we’d love to formally share just ONE of your books with the FrostWire user community around the world.

If you were to share one book for free with our community, which one would it be, and would it be possible to share it under a Creative Commons license (so nobody gets in trouble with your publishing house for sharing the content)

Much thankful for sharing your genius with mankind
The FrostWire and FrostClick teams.

I asked my secretary to send you “The Way of the Bow”. Please feel free to share.
It is a book that I published myself (currently in Kindle single) so there are no publishing houses on the loop
Please write to Pilar as soon as you receive the pdf

I arrived here due to pirate bay’s announcement and I’m glad to see some artists are beginning to understand that giving away their work might be a better idea than blocking it.

I think you are a visionary Paulo. Maybe I won’t buy a book from you right now (because I already have like 5), but I will tell every person I know about this and maybe they you will sell some more books :)

I came here via Pirate Bay. I checked out one of your books through a torrented copy, and have subsequently decided to order it from my local bookstore.

Thank you, Mr. Coelho, for seeing through the unfortunate veil of dishonesty the supporters of SOPA have tried to throw over our eyes.

Your newest fan,

Cher “Grand Homme” Coelho,

Whoever likes reading will seek for readings.
If one can, acknowledge the authors (and more: the text) by aquiring the book – paper or whatever.
If one can not, it´s a pity. But isn´t being read what matters the most to texts and authors?

Caro Paulo,

I was also like Computir Man…

I downloaded a copy of Aleph, after reading 3 pages I decided to buy the book.

Even if all of the world’s books were to be freely available online there’d still be a lot of people patronizing the physical book.

I dunno but for me there’s still this magical feeling when we turn a page, when we have it signed and share to our friends and family, specially when you read it beside a kid, gleaming with enthusiasm, waiting for the next lines, eagerly turning the pages as they’re engulf in a new world…

Thanks Señor Paulo! Keep Inspiring! Keep Touching Lives!

My wife read the Alchemist in Spanish many years ago: She bought it from a shop in Santiago. Three years later a relative, who had downloaded the book, briefly recounted the book to me, and I expressed an interest In 2011, the same relative bought me a hard copy of the book for my Christmas present. I’ve finished the book, and recommend it highly, like many other before.
Even if I download something for free, it does not preclude buying it another time. Often with software programmes, I will try it out afore buying it it.

Reply

Gwenyn January 30, 2012 at 6:44 pm

No pasa nada.

Carlos January 30, 2012 at 8:02 pm

icaro January 31, 2012 at 7:12 pm

Paulo,
Your example of offering your writings for free and asking the readers to purchase copies after which is inspiring. It reminds me of having a contract with the universe of sorts…… that which I freely give is given freely unto me. I was in the bookstore a few days ago and I always go to the section/ shelves that hold your books. I own each one, but I always go just to take a glance just to make sure the shelf is stocked :)
You are a pure example of awesomeness!
