Whose Path Are You Walking?

by Dennis Merritt Jones

Have you ever had others criticize you for the path in life you have been called to walk, be it spiritual, career, lifestyle, and so on?
Often those who tend to have the greatest opposition to the pathway we walk are family and friends. Of course this can be extended to include religious institutions, political parties, and cultural traditionalists as well — many of which make no bones about it, priding themselves on believing that their way is the only way.

It can be incredibly difficult to separate from the “herd” and go our own way when it goes against the grain of the herd mentality (or majority) and yet, if we don’t, we know there is a part of us that will slowly begin to die.
Call it spirit, soul, life force, or what you may, there is that within us that knows who it is we’ve come here to be and what it is we’ve come here to do and if we don’t listen to its call, it begins to wane.
This is when life becomes more about enduring until we die rather than thriving while we are here.

Perhaps what our critics don’t understand is that beneath the layer of what they may refer to as “choice,” there lies another layer where lives the authentic self, and its voice perpetually whispers ever so softly in our inner ear, “Be who you are and you’ll find freedom, fullness of expression, joy, peace, purpose and meaning in this precious life you have been given.”
This voice beckons us to be true to ourselves; when we hear and listen to that voice, it’s not so much that we are then guided to choose a certain path in life but, in truth, realize that our path has chosen us.

The voice to which I refer is incapable of guiding us in a direction that is self-destructive or harmful to others or that in any way dishonors the sacredness of life, because it is life itself that beckons us.

Avec la voix, on voit l’arbre de la vie,
Cela peut etre la bonne voie,
    avec amour
With the voice, we can see the tree of life.
This can be the good road

Running, everything blurs as I pass it it’s as if I had never passed by there at all, a whisper, a moment, an interruption in the landscape. Running towards nothing, leaving everything but then what is everything. A word that is suppose to encompass our everyday surrounding, our relationships, our belongings, our professions, our memories. So many things we carry, like a constant weight on our shoulder, growing heavier at every moment trying to bury us, to ground us to a place from where we are too invested to move. It rips you apart when you realize that your freedom will always be bonded by your everything. And what is your everything : relations don’t you don’t actually have , space and time occupied with people without actually interacting.

    Spirituality is my path
    My spirit.
I have discovered is what holds it together,.
I believe the spirit is the answer.
Spiritualit Y is there to give you a hand .
In the word itself I find everything that I need
    SPIRITUALITY
    Spiritualit Y (hand in Hebrew)
is there to give you a hand,

    SPIRIT uality
    Spirit (Having a good time)
    Spirits (to drink (in moderation)
    Spirit (Breathing for In spiration)

    Spi RITUAL ity
    a ritual

    Spi RIT uality
    rit (to laugh in French)

    Spiritua LIT y
    Lit (to read in French)
    Lit (bed in French)
Lit ( A light in English)

Spirituality is everything you need to have a life and sustain it.
It is for me part of a ritual, to go and get some fresh air, to breathe,, getting in touch with myself, to laugh and enjoy the moment sharing with nature with faith and love,

    With love and appreciation

    So true.. !
It does not take a lot to hear to our inner voice and follow the path it has always pointed to. Whats really matters is to realize the presence of it.
    You are so inspiring Paulo!

I was able to make choices freely for my own will whem I was younger for example I am a dentist and when I was 25 I wanted to work a a business professional and just like that changed my city, my profession and it was so easy for me. Now I am 40 and have a daughter and a husband and I don’t want to work like this any more, I want my hobbies to my professional job, I want to take care of my family more but I am not willing to cut the source of the the money needed for life standarts to 2. It seems as if I have no chooice what I actually want is to say goodbye to professional life and buy a farmhouse and create my own staff natural food there and sell through internet. But it ain’t that easy is it?
