Thank you very much for sharing this. The book made a profound impact on my life and I have waited in anticipation for years to see if the film had the same heart. It does.

Oh my God is this real? I had no idea this existed. Veronika... is my absolute FAVOURITE book of all - read it repeatedly. I can't tell you how many people I've either bought the book for or recommended it to. Wow - the movie? Made in 2009? Where have I been? Beyond thrilled.

If a book leaves a really deep impression on me, I don't like to watch a movie after...but I will make an exception for this one.

Waw Gracias, such a great movie. I wish every single individual in the world watches this at least once, so that they might appreciate life and begin becoming grateful for being healthy and having the gift of of long life to plan reaching their goals and desires. Most of us are not appreciating what we have until we lose it, but not all of us are as fortunate as Veronika to start over and have every thing back.

Mr. Coelho, out of all your books - this one is my favorite, I've read it three times, and retain a copy for the future several readings. I'll keep reading it again and again - until I finally adopt the idea, that every day of my life is, indeed, a miracle. Thank you and God bless you!

a timely reminder that each day is precious and not to be lost to work/phones/emails/facebook etc. when you're faced with a choice, always chose in favour of your passion.

Thank you Paulo Coelho for giving us the story of hope and a timely reminder that each day is precious and a miricle.
March 23, 2013 at 12:31 pm
I have read the book only after having seen the movie, & enjoyed both in different ways * In my opinion, it is a very strong topic to deal with, in our so-called modern society, sharing this story reveals a great example of hope * so again & again & again Maximum LOVE to U Paulo! thank you!

Even though the place in the film was luxurious with a nice park, in comparaison to the one I have witnessed, I was able to recognise a similar pattern. The lunch time sessions, the loneliness with a lot of the people being left on their own with no visitors at all, (Edward in the film was having his yearly visit) , the endless smoking sessions. Claire's part I found quite powerful, the way she talked like someone stoned with the drugs and the lost look when the dosis of the medications needed to be adjusted (there is a vision of sinking at the bottom of the water). was quite horrifying.
I noted with interest Veronika 's comments to her psychiatrist 'because you like to play with people's thoughts'. Food for thought as well as the admission later on by the Doctor 'that 'if everyone realised their dreams, this place will be empty.'
I particularly loved the silence, the gaps in between, the clock, the rain, the piano, train, arts, photos, the crickets sounds at night, the sunrise, it was for me an unmistakable reminder to focus onto the present time.
Why the film was taken off the market so quickly I still don't understand, It is a must see for all to be more aware of what we are dealing with 'mental illness'. Can we improve it?
I also loved the songs and Veronika mention of having a Guinness was for me a great way in heading in the right direction - the healthy one.:)
with thanks and love.

By the way, Melissa Leo - also in the movie - deserved an Oscar!

MTO AGRADECIDA,

'Insanity is the inability to communicate our idea so all of us are to one degree insane. But don't confuse insanity with the loss of control. You have two choices - to control your mind or to let your mind control you.'
It was incredibly powerful scene when Eduardo started communicating - no one knew how to handle it, except Veronika...
March 24, 2013 at 1:44 pm
March 24, 2013 at 1:50 pm
Effroyable!
In italiano please..thanks.
