thank you for sharing great thoughts and providing helpful advice. Somehow it happens that I always find the right books and stories that fit exactly the moment and stage of life I am in – or maybe they find me.

Concerning this post about communication problems I immediately had to think about a situation that I experienced about a year ago. At that time my partner and I (he is Mexican and I am German) were often communicating in Spanish, but continuing in English for deeper thoughts or problems. Facing an important time of decisions, some smaller, others bigger, we were talking on how to reach a decision in case we did not agree on a solution. So, talking in English, I proposed to make a compromise – in the GERMAN sense of the word being an agreement where both parties “meet in the middle”. The more often I mentioned that word, the more my partner got upset and asked me why I always wanted a compromise of him – which I could not understand, until one day I found out the SPANISH meaning, being an obligation or commitment. So, talking in one language does not necessarily mean people understand each other… taking me back to your quote “love is the key to understand all mysteries” – regardless of any differences of culture.

For all people facing this kind of multi-cultural/-national relationships I can only recommend you to have the patience to listen to your beloved one, with all your heart

I wonder if the Brazilian man also walked away that day, having felt better after being in cheery company. This may have meant a lot to him, with perfect timing too. In a way, each receiving something valuable from meeting on that day.

Silence communicates and projects messages, so does energy that some are able to read in printed text, see in auras, or just feel. Babies and small children are great communicators also, like the wee boy in story number 2!!

I love myself and like myself too : ) (but do get frustrated sometimes over words, thankful for everyone that uses them so succintly) (hmmm, noticing there is no ‘reply’ box below, and giggling just now)

yes what u have said makes sense, one needs to attack teh root cause of spread of terrorism, primarily it ia lack of information ( those who turn innocent people into suicidal terrorists, keep their victims away from wider information, access to TV ) and lack of oppertunities to improve one’s finacial lot. a more justifibale distibution of industry and wealth could be the long term answer to this problem !

I do not care about things that most ppl do: status, appearances of having a better life than my neighbor, work, etc… I go through life obeying God… in that I don’t mean man made religions… I mean God with whom I have a connection and dialog with…

I learn the lessons that I have to learn and teach them to my daughter, for there’s lessons that she can learn without having to end up licking her own wounds… I licked my own wounds with the passing of time, which brought along many battles where my sword had to fall upon others and some swords fell upon me, and hopefully my daughter will learn the lessons without getting as many scratches and scars as I have…

Today, I am not happy… I feel sad… sad coz I see what’s coming for certain of my loved ones… too many ppl fear… fear stops everything… too many ppl do not care about their loved ones and/or neighbors… that! makes me sad…

I love to feel my heart soar, knowing that I will go through another battle and I’ll be ok no matter how many scars and wounds I get…

Right now, it’s an interlude for me… status quo… where I can try to rest a bit… nonetheless, I’m on my guards coz I know the battle’s not over yet…

I follow the signs God puts on my path… I have been physically ill for a month and havent gone to work… and God showed me that I have to move back to my hometown to help my soul-sister who’s been through a lot lately (end of a relationship with her daddy’s baby boy… her brother just died… wondering how she’ll provided financially for her kids and pay the rent alone, etc…)… I have to go there coz God showed me, through signs on the road, that I have to go there…

I was suppose to go in another city to help another of my friends do a healing center… yet, at the last moment, God, showed me by changing things amongst the ppl that were suppose to go help create the healing center, that I had to take a pose from that project and go help my soul-sister… and that when she’ll be ok, I’ll return to my initial path and move to that other city to help create the healing center…

We need to follow the signs on the road… the omens… and not get entangled with the superficialities of life…

At work one day, I was listening to a team lead tell me how he’s always wanted to open a boutique in London (UK)-we’re in Canada-… and I asked him “why dont you?”… and he replied to me that he couldnt anymore coz he was stuck in a government job with good money, a good pension plan and that he was too old to be dreaming about such a thing as a boutique in London… and that, anyway, there was a lot of boutique in London like the one he always dreamed of doing… I said to him “you’re only stuck here if you want to… if you dont wanna be stuck, then there’s no job, no money, no pension plan nor no age that can stop you from following your dream”… I told him to read your book “The Alchemist” which, surprisingly, he had never heard of.. he said that he’d think about it… that was like 2-3 months ago… He’s still working at the government job…

What is happiness? I dont know, but I do know that we cant find it when we feel stuck… We always have a choice… always… We have the choice to choose and we also have to choice to not choose… either way… it’s a choice…

We also have the choice to look within us for God and His voice… He guides us all the time and never falters… We’re the ones who choose to listen or not to Him…

Eventually, one day… when we’ll be near our last breath… God, if he hasnt done it before, will show us true happiness… I just guess that, by that time, it`s gonna be too late to post the answer, of what happiness is, here on this blog lololol… that`s ok lol… coz searching for happiness is like searching for the Holy Grail… you cannot find it… it finds you… and it`s usually already inside of you… all buried deep down… like a diamond surrounded by coal lol…

Everyday’s a discovery…

The next step for me “Mari Magi” is to go to Ireland to find my Celtic roots. I don’t have a coin right now, so even though I would like to travel to Dublin – ordering a plane ticket from Norwegian today – it is not possible. (Thanks angel Bjørn for the nice offer.) But I can find information about the Celtic Christian tradition on internet, and I can borrow books at the library. Maybe I can go to Ireland in the spring. I can feel that there is a pilgrimage (or more) ahead of me. Certainly one to Nidaros…
Some day I might even visit Jesus in Rio de Janeiro. I once got 500 letters from Brazil (1975?). That must have been a sign!

And so clearly and simply stated in the first paragraph, if we have dreams, they came from somewhere and that somewhere also gave us the tools to make them happen.

Happiness belongs to nobody and can happen to everybody who lets it into his life.
Happiness is the intention to experience happiness.

Maybe happiness is also the feeling when we make an effort (have courage, fight for something, learn something, believe in something etc.) and then have success. The moment we have success, we feel happy.

I agree with your view on torture. I just don’t believe punishment or any form of torture is the best way to get a terrorist to speak or give classified information. The water boarding is a hot topic here these days, and Obama is investigating CIA’s use of this method after 911. Why are most Al Quida members recruited? For religious purpose; They are promised 72 virgins in heaven. And for financial reasons; They are promised the family to be taken care of financially. So, why not offer terrorist-suspects something in this direction during interrogation, offer them reward and benefits, to encourage them to have a change of heart?

Happiness.. Being happy? why on earth would anybody want to feel happy forever? Wouldn´t it be boring?.. Isn´t the gray sky what make us think about the shiny sun that is missing?.. Isnt the fell of leaves that let us heard the sound of the wind and remind us that that even death leaves were alive?

Isnt sadness good enough as happiness..? Isnt it just another feeling.. Or maybe Iam just being kinda blue..

Nevertheless conceirning the accused grounds this what i say

First of all you mentioned that he put one Law and only knowing that Adam and Eva would have commited the crime and would have set a series of facts in order to do His Will and that basically Free Will is nothing but free so He is accused as a moral accomplice of the Fallony that was commited by ommitted action (survelance of the surrouning place and lack of taking the precaution and required measures).
People brakes the law all the time but no one ever went to trial the legislature despite the fact that he also knows that his law won’t be executed 100o/o but no one has ever accused of him as a moral accomlice to any of the commited crimes, so this ground is overuled.
Second of all was God’s ommittions so imprortant and definitive for the result so even if he never would have ommitted the above (survelaince and taking the appropriate measures)we would or we wouldn’t have the same result?Meaning would Adam and Eva even without God’s interventions would or wouldn’t eat the apple just with a little help from the snake?
And finally is the snake the moral accomplice of the crime?
Well Adam and Eva were adults meanining that they were legally capable and mature to make their choices because Law’s purpose supposingly, theoratically is to make the life better and more eaasy going for the members of the community in order to serve the common good.
Police and any other measures are precautious measures to avoid the crime not to encouranging them or in any way to provoke it allthough it is a fact that crimes are done even without any precaution measure taken.
Neggliggence or intention are irrelevant Adam and Eva commited this knowing the law, the consequences,being totaly and legaly capable so they would have done it even without any intervention by God. So this ground is overuled also.
Last of the snake but you didin’t ask about it have you?
So God seems to be more not guilty of charges than you thought in the first place isn’t it? What do you think?

Just some thoughts I use to think!

I belong to a religion that does not give too much emphasis on angels. And I dont have much regards to angels in such ways as most people who are very much into it. But around 2005 I was in my lowest low of my life, I had no job, no money and my self esteem and confidence left me. And the only reason I wake up everyday was to go to the temple and pray, or sometimes just sit there and wait for any inkling of talking to GOD. Then on one sunday morning after performing my church duties, I decided to go back to sleep for a few minutes since it wont be two hours for my meeting with friends. I look at the clock and it says 7:20 then I turn to the other side of my bed and when I closed my eyes, as if awake, I was surprised to see myself walking inside the temple and seeing rows of winged creatures with bronze clored skin and no face with their wings semi spread bowing there heads as if welcoming me. And I said to myself, what are they doing? And why are they bowing down on me. They were clother with something pearl white in color that goes to the floor and I can see that they were barefooted because I can see their bronze colored feet. and then the phone rang and woke up and I was flabbergasted. And when I checked the watched it was already 10 AM. From the time I looked at the clock and the time i turned to close my eyes to my understanding was not even a split of a second…Now Tell me, How do we decern such and appreciate it as something special to our life, when angels make themselves appear. I hope you do not find this weird.

Over the summer I got to work in the local court house. One lunch I was sitting in my Jeep smoking and listening to the local radio. From the side door of the court house the police came out followed by about eight men in handcuffs; there were bank robbers and a few rapists, possibly a murderer also. I sat pinned to my seat as one by one they passed my window. I thought to myself; I did not have a totally wonderful life growing up; my teen years and early twenties spent drinking and smoking, my education is worth nothing, but I still managed to be sitting on the other side of the counter in the court house. It’s about personal choice in life, well in my life anyway, I could get up in the morning and steal some old ladies hand bag or try and rob a bank, shop… but I choose not to because I don’t want to get thrown out of the Garden of Eden!

That would explain why everybody sees happiness in different places: we all have different values.

If you value personnal achievement, than creation/accomplishment is your way to hapiness.
If you value fairness in life, than altruism might be your way to happiness.
If you value small values, be ready to be rewarded with small happiness. ( I scratch your back makes you happy ’till I stop ).
If you value nothing, drugs might be a way to happiness.
And the list goes on….

When you see happy people, check their values. Check the soundness of their values and most important: «their structure of value».

That is, a system of value built like a piramid: with all values thought and integrated, built one upon another is a sure way to happiness.
Unintegrated values, contradicting values, based on nothing ( think like: «I don’t know why but I feel like wanting this…» ) is the acrobatic way to happiness. Way up and way down..
Impossible or contraticting values is the way to a dead-end.
( Non-value of human achievement in a human world is a condradiction: happiness will be hard to find there (if it is a truely important non-value) )

Don’t confuse «value» with «moral», I’m pretty sure that somebody who don’t value human life, but value power over those life could live a pretty happy one killing other people.

So the way to happiness is in your values. And ( that is the hard part ), the way to a solid system of value is to «think».
- Why Am I feeling this ?
- Why does it feel important ?
- Doesn’t this value contradict this previous one ? Why ?
- If I really value this, why ? And why not that one ?…
This thinking should go on and on…
Happiness will reward you effort along the way.

this makes sense because if we feel we don’t have enough security within who we are, we balk at other’s needs… but if we are connected to Source at a deeply engaged level we are wide open to any and all needs – our own and from others – because we KNOW we are capable and strong.. no, because we KNOW we are Love, incarnate.

And love is the antithesis of fear.

I’ve found a deep truth in this and am so relieved I found it: its come at the most perfect time in my world… am SO SO SO excited.. so many view dependence as a weakness, so this may challenge them deeply, but I’ve just realized that being the conduit for other’s needs is such an immense service!!!!!

What a tremendously exciting challenge: to retain your congruence and sense of self in the face of any demands placed on you by others… this is the precisely doorway/process that most tend to flee….

but it’s not about giving of Self, it’s about giving THROUGH self…. it’s about being able to plug so deeply into Universal Flow that you are not capable of being depleted!!!!

this way, we become Service, incarnate… which is Divine Love,

Recuerdo que hace un tiempo estaba hablando con un Tito acerca de un amigo mi al que yo amo mucho. Yo estaba diciendole que estaba enamorada, y titio me contesto que eso no era amor y solo se iria en un tiempo y jamas lo recordaria.

Esa vez pense acerca de lo que el amor es, y como se medira, cuando es que sabes que estas enamorado o qeu sientes amor.
Pero no puede resonderme a mi misma y ahora que pienso al respecto me doy cuanta que en mi caso yo siento no hay forma de saberlo, solo lo sabes, y no hay forma de medirlo cada quien tiene su forma de amar y sentirlo. no hay una forma general.

Happiness is just a temporary state of mind. It can never last.

it is difficult to love, be given a promise to be loved in return, and be left hanging, and hoping. in the alchemist, you said something about forgetting and hoping, and not knowing which to do is the most difficult thing to do. and i now know that it is true. and it is that state of limbo, the state of not knowing what to do, the sense of losing hope that which makes us bitter.

Can angels also tell you things that seem right when you feel your heart but seem wrong when you listen to your mind and to earthly rules? I think it’s so hard, I never know what to listen to…
There is a decision I have to make, and it’s one between the heart and the mind. My heart screams one answer, the most unconventional one…my head says something else, the most normal answer….
I would love to follow my heart.. but I might hurt other people and that doesn’t seem right either.. Would you please please be so kind to read this and tell me what you think?

I clicked on it immediately, thinking, perhaps without even knowing that I was until i reached the end of the passage, that maybe Paulo would have some words of wisdom on how to be less dependant, more self-reliant, perhaps even less emotional.
For some reason, I already had negative conatations with the sort of behaviour I find myself exhibiting, even yearning for. Being “emotionally dependant”

This doesnt necessarily make you weak. Possibly just the opposite. I believe it takes strength to have willingness to love, and be loved.

A great man once said “The strongest love is the love that can demonstrate its fragility”

When I think back over all the stories of yours that I have read so far, Paulo, it seems that they were all about the archetypal journey. Even Brida, even The Valkyries, both of which addressed the love triangle, and yet which were both still, essentially, about The Journey.

In fact, the more I think of it, the more it makes sense to me. Is it possible that for some people there is only one type of story? It seems to me that, no matter what story I were to tell, even if there were some sort of power struggle involved, even if it encompassed a narrative of love, that story could only ever be a story of the journey, because in life there is nothing but The Journey. All else is peripheral to that journey, or else inevitably swallowed up by it All else is just a part of the road, an element of the quest – even love, or at least love as I have known it.

I think of the Arthurian Legends – the tales of the Quest for the Holy Grail. Those stories encompass many tales of love, and certainly many power struggles, but those are always only parts of the larger story. The story is The Quest – the internal as well as external journey which that entails.

I think also of the Tarot deck and the archetypal journey it represents. The Lovers card is there, the Three of Swords, as are many cards which might represent a struggle for power, but nonetheless, the Fool and his journey toward card XXI are the essence of the deck.

Thank you, Paulo. Your words, as well as your books as examples, have helped me to understand what is “story” for me. The Journey is the only story I have to tell.

Thank you for this moving story – and for all your books, which never fail to bring me hope that this life does have meaning, even if clouds obscure our vision at times.

Like some others who have replied, I missed an important chance a few years ago, and was actually attracted to this blog entry because of that. I definitely believe in giving others second chances whenever possible.

My hope is that all will be granted not only the second chance they wish for, but also the fulfillment of their heart’s desire.

During quite a bit I’ve started looking for that which I dream, it is really hard, but when I start getting out of that path I start feeling all that made me unhappy before, that helps me stay on my path, because I don’t want to return to that pretended happiness most people seem to love or to stop believing that there is so much more to life than we see now.

I normally don’t bother myself asking that question because when we are happy, we will know; Sooooo… happiness to all and don’t stop believing! )

on the one hand… it is important to respect copyright of the author… AS a student I kNOW this when it comes to referencing someone elses work. The author has a right to say not more than %% of the work can be reproduced without authorisation. [This also i think is meaning that ten people cant copy %% each and put the results together as one].

People work hard to produce a piece of art or other work. They work hard to get it noticed. The internet is part of this world. The author has earnt that path to be visible.

Yet on the other hand, i sympathise with the reader who can not afford a book.. it is hard to miss out.. it is hard to wait.
yet surely this is no reason to overrule copyright?

in a way, copyright is a product of spiritual law.

in concluding, id like to reproduce a story that i read only last evening. Here seems the best place in Paulo’s blog to discuss it.

A grandfather is sitting with his offspring and it is coming to the time where death is drawing in. The grandfather is concerned for his family after his departing and so wishes to ensure that they shall know how to continue to be strong and always feel the power of God within them.

He tells his offspring that every year they should go to a special clearing in the forest, where they should light a fire and where they should say a special prayer.
The grandfather passes away and his family return to the sight in the clearing in the forest. They remember to light the fire, but they can not remember the special prayer. Yet they feel the power of God within them.

The next year, the next generation returns and remember their way to the clearing in the forest; but they can not remember the practice of the fire making, nor do they know the special prayer now. Yet they feel the power of God within them.

Again, the next time…. the family have returned.. but they can not find the clearing in the wood this time and they have forgotten about the fire and the special prayer. Yet they feel the power of GOd within them.

And so it is, that it is how God is within us all.

In other words, I know, that they all represent that we have different ways to reach god, through different religions, which actually will lead us to the same source.

I am asking – is it possible, maybe, to reach it without being religious, in the official way. Maybe the “END” or “THE LAST DAY” (the worlds end) what bible describes is actually a hint that maybe religions as ‘Crhistianity’, ‘Islamism’, ‘Judaism’, etc… are coming to an end themselves. Maybe this new generation of people are actually creating their own “religions”… inside themselves. Maybe we are actually meant to look inside ourselves, and not follow a certain religious group? These are just thoughts that came in my mind, after I read these stories.

I am sorry, if I have offended anyone. It is not my itention.
I respect people, no matter what their beliefs are.

thank you for this simple but powerful words about the act of writing. I am about to finish now my thesis on The Witch of Portobello, but it’s interesting that I told my supervisor that it will be never finished, as the words live in the moment, and the moment is eternal …But you know, there have been two major things I did in order to overcome my ‘writers block’ about 2 months ago. First, I went back to the Alchemist and re-read the passage when the boy transforms into the wind (actually my favourite one), and then I wrote a response in the voice of Athena explaining how she had viewed all the characters…In the beginning I wasn’t sure if it was right to add my name to your masterpiece, and then eventually I realized that I already did by reading the book and living the endless everchanging moment. I know the responses I will get from my professors and that is good…They will be quite surprised about my colligation of theories put both artistically and academically together. But there will be resistance to it, which is even better. Resistance brings about change and change brings about innovation. I also think it is better to have a sharp critic than no critic, because then you know you moved something…:-)

i am a huge fan. on july 3, 2009 on the way to obleron in kenscoff haiti, my then friend car’s broke down. i walked out of
the car an sat on a tip of a concrete block and i looked down a
somewhat ravine then i saw a handful of sunrocks like i was in
the death valley in california, i was attracted by the vibrancy,
the energy and the entire area spinned, i was afraid to stand up
i lost connection with time and when i finally came back to reality i had lost a 30 years friendship because i was too disconnected to be a friend to my friend that is how she felt and
i could not explain.
